A charming boutique hôtel in Sandton, a suburb of Johannesburg. Our room was beautiful and we were sorry we were only spending one night there. We had a large sitting room, a very spacious bedroom and a lovely bathroom/dressing area. While we didn't take advantage of the pool, we walked around it and it looked lovely. The gardens there were also beautiful and since it was summer, in full bloom. We ate dinner at the hotel, outside, and it was very good. Breakfast, too, was fine.

I spent my 1 year wedding anniversary at this hotel, my choice was based on the fact that the hotel included a spa. The room was utterly amazing and huge. I was booked in the courtyard suite for a one night stay including breakfast. At the time they offered a great anniversary deal which was well worth it including a spa treatment for 2 including dinner. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make us feel special, they even left strawberries and cream in the hotel room when we went for dinner as well as placing petals next to the bed-This was really touching. The restaurant is amazing, the breakfast and lunch were top class with the waiters always being at hand. The only things I could maybe criticize was that maybe there's not much the hotel offers other then a SPA and the accommodation is very expensive if you working on a budget. Overall it was a great anniversary and the hotel really impressed me and I would recommend it to anyone looking for something special.

Room Tip: I stayed in the courtyard room which was amazing, it was huge and had all the amenities.

I was given a voucher by a friend for a 2 hour treatment at the Fairlawns Spa for my birthday. From the moment I arrived at the hotel I received an extremely warm welcome from the staff and in particular the therapist who greeted me by name. The quality of the treatment (hot/cold stone massage, facial & foot treatment) was excellent and I've had many in my lifetime! My only criticism would be that the Spa itself was looking a little dated and in my opinion could do with a refurb. If it could be possible for an extra fee for Spa guests to use the pool that would be nice too.

My first impression was wow! The grounds, building and gardens are superb. However, a few intances let us down. One, our prearranged transport to tourist attraction did'nt arrive causing much grief and to be late to a prepaid attraction. Apologies were offered, but nothing more, ie perhaps out taxi fare to be paid?? And that night, no hot water for showers and again not much the way in apologies and certainly no 'free' drink at that nights christmas dinner by way of apology! All in all, not up to a true 5 star hotel. Also be warned that breakfast included deals do not include coffee for some bizarre reason??

Room Tip: near the pool

The Fairlawns is top notch. The service is so good it is actually over the top!

We were greeted with a towel and a drink. Our bags were handled for us. The room was massive! Two double beds and a full sitting area with tv plus a desk area. The bathroom was also extremely large with a separate tub and shower. There were complimentary drinks and fruit in the room.

The staff helped us arrange shipment of a bag with a local courier. We were having issues with our phone and someone came promptly to fix it (turns out we were doing something wrong... it works better on speaker phone) We ordered room service which was fast and arrived hot and was not over priced. The breakfast buffet was wonderful (try the muffins!) and there was also menu service available. For a nominal fee you could have your included breakfast delivered to the room!

We ate dinner one night in the restaurant and the food was very good and reasonably priced. There is a dress code for dinner and the desserts are a bit unusual.

The grounds are beautiful and spacious. The layout eliminates the feeling of being in a compound but at the same time the level of security is so high there are no questions about safety.

The only complaint about the property is the price of the laundry service. The rooms are pricey, but the food, phonecalls etc are not so we were surprised at the laundry charges.

We stayed for two nights after arriving from the States and were able to relax and get accustomed to the time change. We had a wonderful suite with a very cofortable bed which was so needed after the flight. This was in early November so the weather was lovely for outdoor dining. We loved the open air restaurant for breakfast and the wonderful selection of fruits. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the housekeeping kept our room tidy and fresh during our stay.

We used the free car service offered by the hotel to go to Sandton for dinner and they were right on time and very curtious.

The grounds are lovely and well kept. The spa is small but efficient. I will admit the electric went out during our stay but the generators were put on and we did not miss a beat.

I would recommend this hotel for a night or two prior to your safari or an overnight before your return home.

Fairlawn’s is first class! Spacious rooms with a staff that is focused on you. The property itself is an attraction, very scenic and picturesque. Stayed three nights but the staff knew us so well I felt as if they built it for us!
