“Superb Winter Vacation.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2013

The hotel is a safe location, Morningside which is one of the most secure locations. It is surrounded by luxury gated residencies. The hotel has security manned gates and feels very safe. Morningside shopping mall is just a 5 minute walk away.

We were a little concerned that most of money would be spent on expensive taxis (Maxi Taxi's), however, we were pleasantly surprised that the hotel offered a free and flexible shuttle to Sandton Mall and the Gautrain station.

The rooms are large, clean, nicely furnished with modern flat screen 32" HDTV's, there are extra blankets and a heater for the cold winter nights. The bathroom is clean and modern, with a powerful shower, bathroom ammenaties are nice and are replenished daily. Our room number 301, had a small terrace and overlooked the beautiful swimming pool and poolside area. It was just a shame it was too cold to swim, maybe when we come back in summer.

Breakfast was delicious and was worthy of a 5 star hotel, there was always variety of fresh juice, milks, yogurts, fruit of all variety's grape, melon, peach, paw paw, orange, apple, strawberry, figs, passion fruit, water melon .Cashew Nuts,Almonds.. The list is endless, cooked meats, cheeses, smoked salmon, pastries, breads and if that is not enough there was also a hot Buffett serving bacon, sausage, mushrooms, beans, tomatoes, hash browns, mincemeat and a choice of freshly cooked eggs. Tea, coffee or hot chocolate .... Truly scrumptious!

The dining area is spotless, with a poolside view, staff work hard and all items are replenished. Breakfast is served between 7am-11am

The bar area is a great place to relax in the evening, comfy Sofa's, a log fire, a good choice of wine and South African beer.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and always looked professional. They deal with Customers quickly and efficiently, always putting the customer needs first ...... First class customer service.

The shuttle drivers are also friendly and courteous, we would to thank Zak for helping when we were celebrating a birthday......Eh Zak big thanks!

Look the pictures , this is just wow and superb value for money....

Room Tip: Use Shuttle and Save Money on Taxis,Room 301

I travel to South Africa frequently, and lived in Johannesburg for five years in the 1990s, so I know the hotel scene here pretty well.

I just spent my first 24 hours at the Falstaff Hotel in Sandton and am very impressed.

South Africa has a large number of upscale, boutique hotels, and most of them charge a big premium to the larger properties. A lot of the boutique hotels are over the top, really amazing experiences.

I was trying to decide whether to stay with friends on this trip, or stay in a hotel. I found a good deal at the Falstaff, and decided to give it a try.

First, the location is great. If you don't know the area, you might think that it is out of the way. But that couldn't be further from the truth. It is on a quiet street, just five minutes from the hustle and bustle of Sandton City. I rent a car when I am here, so I found the location to be highly convenient. If I didn't drive, they offer a free shuttle service to Sandton City/Mandela Square, so this would still have been a great choice.

The rooms are attractively furnished, and nicely appointed. I was pleasantly surprised in this regard.

I am sensitive to the cold, and have stayed at hotels in South Africa that cost twice the amount, and been freezing cold in Johannesburg winters. But the heat in my room here is very powerful.

The staff have been very accommodating and helpful - especially Grace at the front desk.

I feel very safe here, and at night there are two guards who greet you, one at the entrance gate and one at the entrance to the front door.

The sitting rooms are nicely appointed, and feel like someplace impressive where I would invite business colleagues to meet with me.

All in all, this has been a very good choice, and the price of the weekend special, it simply can't be beat.

My general motto in life is "nice things, on sale." The Falstaff fits squarely into that category.

Room Tip: There are no elevators, so be mindful of that if you are not on the ground floor.

We were transferred from the airport to this hotel. On arrival we were greeted with a notice that the water supply was not working, however this was rectified relatively quickly. The hotels rooms are spacious clean and comfortable. The staff we encountered were very helpful. As we were only staying for one night it was a perfect overnight venue.

situation in a posh area in sandton, the hotel is quiet and provides good rest. the room was comfortable, although the bathroom got wet as the screen meant to block water was not sufficient. wifi works in certain areas but was not strong in the room. toiletries provided were decent for use but certainly not luxurious. breakfast was fantastic, despite the spread not being too wide, whatever was available was amazing, especially the eggs. the best part of the hotel was the free shuttle service within a 5km radius, gets you to sandton city and back. super thoughtful and convenient. overall, for the price i paid, i thought it was excellent value for money. would recommend it if you're looking for a good deal.

I am a very loyal Quartermain guest. I travelled with a colleague who prefers the Falstaff. It's very similar to the Quartermain just smaller. Brilliant service. Scrumptious breakfast.

My only gripes were the shower is over the bath which meant it poured water all over the floor. I also called a day before to arrange for my courier to deliver a box for me to use when UTI arrived the staff at Flastaff wouldn't sign for the box, despite being marked clearly "guest". This was highly inconvenient and frustrating. Also the WiFi didn't work in my room. I had to go to the restaurant/ lounge. This also wasn't ideal.

This being said. I would stay again if the Quartermain couldn't have me!!

Room Tip: As far as possible from the restaurant. It was very noisy. I was in 101.

Great surroundings, beautiful gardens, safe and secure. Great breakfasts. Large bedroom, fantastic bathroom. Attentive service while not too stuffy or formal. I'd actually stay here if visiting friends in the area and not on business.

The hotel is located in the safest and richest area probably of the whole continent.
There are no nearby attractions, however consider you're in Johannesburg so, overall, there's not many attractions anyway.
The hotel itself is very pleasant. Unlike other big business hotels no long corridors with endless rooms but a dislocation throughout the area, around a lovely swimming pool area.
Rooms are clean, fairly big and classically decorated.
Gym is small (2 tapis, 1 cyclett, 1 rowing machine, 1 eliptic, and weights until 10kg). Could be improved, but good enough for everyday workouts. Unfortunately outdoors activities are not especially recommended so you need to cope with what you have in the gym to workout.
Restaurant is great. Fair prices, very high quality, makes in room dining a pleasure. Could be improved the light meals selection as they're not that light :) Breakfast is very good, with a good selection of pastries, cereals, and salted food.
The bar area is fantastic, with a fire place for the winter, TV to watch sports, couches to relax.
Staff is extremely friendly and serviable.
The whole for a fair 90€ a night!

Room Tip: Avoid room close to the road, given the traffic of Sandton in the morning.
