We stayed in the area for a week at Champagne Lane resort which was set in the most wonderful scenery, and there was lots to see and do.
Walking was varied, some of the walks being quite difficult, especially the longer ones from the Drakensburg Sun Hotel where you had to sign in and out. You need to give plenty of time for the walks, as the map they give isn,t too accurate . Also good foot ware is essential , and a stick if possible. We started with the Blue Grotto walk which takes you over 3 lots of stepping stones over the river. The first set is quite difficult and prepare to get wet.
We also walked with a local guide to see the bushman paintings, it was 3 hours and fascinating , he was so interesting about the culture and fauna of the area. This can be booked through the Monks Cowl nature reserve, which also has walks of various lengths and difficulty.
A highlight of our trip was to listen to the Drakensburg Boys Choir they do a performance usually once a week in the afternoon for approximately 2 hours with tea and scones during the interval ..
Their performance was wonderful and so varied, and would appeal to any age.
