We stayed in the area for a week at Champagne Lane resort which was set in the most wonderful scenery, and there was lots to see and do.
Walking was varied, some of the walks being quite difficult, especially the longer ones from the Drakensburg Sun Hotel where you had to sign in and out. You need to give plenty of time for the walks, as the map they give isn,t too accurate . Also good foot ware is essential , and a stick if possible. We started with the Blue Grotto walk which takes you over 3 lots of stepping stones over the river. The first set is quite difficult and prepare to get wet.
We also walked with a local guide to see the bushman paintings, it was 3 hours and fascinating , he was so interesting about the culture and fauna of the area. This can be booked through the Monks Cowl nature reserve, which also has walks of various lengths and difficulty.
A highlight of our trip was to listen to the Drakensburg Boys Choir they do a performance usually once a week in the afternoon for approximately 2 hours with tea and scones during the interval ..
Their performance was wonderful and so varied, and would appeal to any age.

The most amazing holiday in South Africa finished with 5 magnificent days in the Drakensberg mountains. We had organised a drive up the jaw-dropping Sani Pass, and we were not disappointed:
The views are majestic, with beautiful waterfalls on the way, courageous mountain bikers and hikers, stunning wild flowers... We were floating over the clouds. We stopped at the Highest Pub in Africa for a cup of tea. Quite memorable really.
Tips: for accommodation we had chosen Sani Valley Lodge, which is right next to the bottom of the pass. It was a real treat. We all LOVED the experience of Nature in Luxury with something for everybody: relaxation on the lake side, massage, jacuzzi and spa treatments, amazing fishing, boating and canoeing, horse riding... Make yourself a favour and book a couple of nights or more in this great place.

We went up the Sani Pass while on holiday in SA. All I can say is WOW! Amazing views and steep drive. If you don't have a 4X4 you can't go up, but you can get a tour guide to take you up. We stayed at the base of the pass in Sani Valley, Sani Valley Lodge Hotel. A huge lake and lots of wildlife.

We started the hike and already the morning clouds were below us. Behold! We see such a beautiful…amazing thing made by nature! It was only for a second that we noticed our shadows on the clouds surrounded by a beautiful circular rainbow! It was our sheer luck that we had our camera on and we were able to capture this amazing moment. But what an amazing site! Only morning sun rays and moisture could have made this happen. Excellent breakaway deep in the Drakensberg southern range above Underberg. Well set accommodation with all modern conveniences available, giving that "home away from home" feeling. Stunning views of mountains, with Rhino Peak above the complex. Chalets overlook 18 hole golf course. Great weekend getaway!
