My trip to Ushaka was for a week long dive certification. Although the dive shop is not connected onsite with Ushaka, it still uses the aquarium for part of the certification. They have taken a large ship and pushed it on shore to build upon and create a unique park. The kids enjoyed the aquarium, while waiting at the large window for mama to swim by. One side of the ship has a shark tank, and the levels of dining are neat. It goes from casual and relaxed, to reservations and fine dining. All on the same boat! The dolphins and water slides were a hit with the kids. All in all, I would go back and play all day.

“Good fun”

This is an excellent place to take the family. The kids have more than enough to keep them busy with and there are various inter active shows to attend. Make sure you have enough time to go there for at least one full day to make the most of what there is to offer.

“Educational”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2014

Apart form the awesome water park they have marine mammals in which they educate you about. Firstly I'm very impressed with how clean the park is. Recycling is encouraged as part of the scheme to raise awareness of how rubbish can affect marine life. All the animals seem very happy and there isn't any signs of mistreatment. On to the water park. You need to spend at least a day here as there is just so much to enjoy. The lazy river ride is awesome and it tanks you past the dolphin enclosure and a huge shark tank. The prices are high but you get a lot from your ticket. There is even the option (for an additional price) to visit the dolphins behind the scenes. Altogether a great time.

“Great day outing for the whole family”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2014 via mobile

We visited with our whole extended family, two little ones, five young adults and a few of us just a bit older. It is quite well sign posted once you are near the beachfront and once you get there, there is lots of secure parking with lots of help from attendants to get you into a parking spot. Remember to tip them, R3-R5 is appropriate. It is a short walk from car park through a small shopping mall to the beach. The ocean is quite calm in this part of Durban and safe swimming for the whole family. There is a jetty on he south side of the beach and it is nice to walk to the end and get good views of Durban beachfront whilst sipping a cool drink, alcoholic drinks are sold as well. Watch out for the sand sculpture artists, they do amazing work. Tip them generously, it is the only way they make money and they have to pay the authorities to build their creations there. We had lunch at Moya, great service and delicious food and good view of the beach. The actual Marine World is very good, lots to see, there is dolphin, seals and penguin exhibits and a very good aquarium set in a shipwreck setting, very well done. My advice is to allow more time for Marine World. The whole complex is definitely worth more than one visit.
