“Excellent location”

Great location, in the beginning of the bars and restaurant district but very quiet within the hotel. I felt very safe walking along the main street to and from the hotel till late hours.

The room we were in was relatively small and outdated, but very clean and well kept.
The breakfast was amazing. Very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel manager took the time to introduce herself and offer her assistance during breakfast. Overall a great experience.

We spent 2 nights at the Benjamin Boutique Hotel in January 2012. The hotel is impeccably clean. The ambience is homely and gives a feeling of comfort, warmth, and relaxation. The staff is welcoming, helpful and very warm, yet unobtrusive.

There was a complimentary bottle of wine in our room, and we found the complimentary drinks (open bar) in the evening to be a nice touch.

The rooms are spacious and clean. Generally speaking the hotel is quiet, for those who wish to sleep in.

We enjoyed the breakfast, which lived up to what we had been told on the day we checked in. "That the breakfast is enough to keep you going all day!"

The staff also presented our 22-month-old daughter with a beautiful goody bag, which really made her day.

The swimming pool is on the smaller side, as is the parking space available for guests.

But all in all, a great place to stay in Durban!

I stayed at The Benjamin Boutique Hotel for 2 nights in December 2011. As a woman travelling on my own I felt completely safe at all times. A night security guard was available to show me to the parking, as I came home late. There was a lot of personal contact between the staff and the guests. What impressed me was the warmth and care shown. I felt extremely welcome!

We recently spent a few nights at The Benjamin. The hotel is well maintained, serves a lovely breakfast and has a home from home feel. Conveniently located on the Berea which gives easy access to all free ways and the must do's in Durban. We highly recommend this small boutique hotel.

The stay as such was OK but security totally spoiled the experience. Parking on the compound is limited to a few cars and we had to park in the neighboring street on advice of the hotel. This dead-end street has yellow-shirted 'guards'. On the day of departure we found 2 side windows were cut-out and smashed and goods stolen. The estimated damage and theft is substantial. When reporting to the hotel it turned out the 'guards' operate on their own so there is NO security for guest' cars. With glass services closed over the weekend this was a bad and very costly ending of the stay. Adding a security guard for cars of hotel-guest seems a rather easy improvement.

Room Tip: Rooms on the street side encounter some nightly noise of disco.

this was my first trip to SA, on business. My colleague had stayed at the Benjamin many times before, and I now understand why! A very homely, boutique hotel, with friendly staff and a wonderful manageress. The attention to detail really impressed me.
A great location too, with many excelent restaurants in walking distance( and we did walk to them)
It was a pity we had to keep rushing off every morning, as I would have loved to linger a lot longer over the breakfast spread!
Hightly recommended.

I also spent about ten days in Durban attending the COP 17 meetings in December and was very pleased with this little hotel. The location, service and especially the staff are all very pleasant. The only caveat I would add is that it is not a 'business' hotel and does not pretend to be. What I mean by that it does not have the same amenities that big business hotels tend to have: gym, spa, business center, room service, mini bar etc. I think it more than makes up for it with location, coziness and the friendliness of the staff. As someone who spends entirely too much time in soulless, over designed hotels that try too hard and take themselves too seriously, it was nice to stay somewhere that felt more like a home than a hotel.

Room Tip: As for a room away from the street. Overlooking the pool is nice!
