Really great location, especially for younger visitors to Durban, for easy walking access to restaurants and bars all around. I felt fine walking until late because there were so many other people out and about. The unofficial parking guards may tail you a bit, thinking you are going to your car when you walk back to the hotel, but they're just looking for their tips. Service is generally quite friendly and personal. Managers and senior staff were usually around during breakfast and very eager to help. Breakfast itself is wonderful. There is a small, but varied cold buffet selection and a hot menu. The menu is a little underwhelming based on the many breakfast mentions I saw in reviews of the hotel, but the food was very good. The rooms are not too big, and the bathroom is small, but both are functional and comfortable. The bed was just about perfect to me, and I slept well every night. The shower is another attribute that stood out and contributed to the relaxing atmosphere of the room. TV options are a bit limited, but the wifi was consistently strong and reasonably fast. I was able to video Skype with no problems. Despite the active nightlife on Florida Rd, I didn't get much street noise at night. While my room was toward the middle of the hotel and somewhat shielded from the street, the immediate area around the hotel doesn't have as many night spots, so I'd imagine even the rooms closest to the street are fine. All-in-all, it was a wonderful stay. I fueled up in the mornings with a full breakfast, headed out during the day for some sight-seeing and beach time, came back to regroup before walking down the street for a late dinner and drinks, and then retiring to the room for a restful sleep.

Last week was the second time I stayed at the Benjamin Hotel in Florida Road, Durban and again I really enjoyed my stay there.. The staff is very friendly and goes out of there way to help you. I also loved the fact that they have now a free and fast wifi connection throughout the hotel. The breakfast buffet is so full of variety that I could sit at it a whole morning! Also location wise Florida road is full of nice little restaurants and pubs to be entertained in the evening.

Room Tip: If you want a good nights sleep ask for a room away from the street, specially over the weekend Flor...

It' is not often that staff will go out of there way to help with what ever hey are requested! At the Benjamin it is the norm! From taking grease out my daughters jacket to reserving parking for a single mom it ws always done with a smile..highly recommended. Good restaurants across the road which means you don't have to ever worry about drinking and driving too.

We spent last night at The Benjamin on Florida Road.It was the evening of our eldest daughter's Matric dance.Well without hestitaion our second daughter asked if we can return for her Matric dance night!A real gem of a hotel, ideally situated in the rather vibey Florida Road of Durban.it was 2 doors away from the Boulevard where the after party was held. The girls just walked over when their party was finished.Certainly saved some late night or should I say wee hours of the morning driving around!
The security was good and helpful!Parking is limited but the security guard did accompany my husband to the additional parking area and walked back with him. This was just about 200 metres away from the hotel.Parking is free!
The rooms are small but cosy, with plenty of towels, toiletries and a complimentary bottle of wine! The breakfast was scrumptious and the service excellent.True 5 star service!Well done to Lindsay,Veena ,Dirk and the team.
Restaurants, night clubs, hairdressers, florists, medical and dental rooms are all within walking distance.Beaches are just a few minutes away.
We will certainly be returning to The Benjamin soon!

Room Tip: Request a room away from the Florida Road side. The street facing rooms may be a bit noisy as Florida...

The Benjamin is a great deal for the location compared to other similar hotels in the area. The rooms are small and simple, but are adequate for a brief stay or if you don't plan on spending much time in your room. There a number of restaurants and bars nearby that are a short walk from the hotel.

The hotel is located on Florida Road, which is a popular area and there are lots of bars and restaurants close by. The hotel is absolutely charming and VERY comfortable. The breakfast was excellent and everyone in our group agreed that the omelettes were some of the best we've ever had. I can also sing praises for the staff who were warm, welcoming and very helpful. We arrived quite late in the evening and it was one member of our party's birthday. Although it was nearly 11pm on a weekday and even though The Benjamin doesn't really have a restaurant (other than their breakfast room), the staff managed to whip up a chocolate cake, mini tarts and a bottle of champagne to help us to celebrate.

Great location, in the beginning of the bars and restaurant district but very quiet within the hotel. I felt very safe walking along the main street to and from the hotel till late hours.

The room we were in was relatively small and outdated, but very clean and well kept.
The breakfast was amazing. Very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel manager took the time to introduce herself and offer her assistance during breakfast. Overall a great experience.
