“Relax afternoons with my dog”
Reviewed 10 April 2013

The gardens are clean and well maintained. On weekends is very busy with families having picnics. But if you walk for about 5 -10 minutes into the park away from parking lot, you fine nice relax and quite areas. I visit the garden many times with my dog, and relax in a blanket reading a book or working on my laptop. On the weekends, there is an old lady that walks around selling yummy homemade ice creams.

“Japanese Gardens, Durban North”
Reviewed 8 April 2013

Not what it used to be ... all the little japanese hut's been replaced with thatch roofs !! Not Japanese at all. It used to be a oasis of calmness where you can hear the wind and find your soul - now days you have to excuse all the caterers trucks and white tents, weddings, birthdays ect.

“A shadow of it's former self”
Reviewed 22 January 2013

Was once a really lovely oasis of calm and beauty in the suburb of Durban North. It is still pretty, but not nearly as lovely as it used to be. Vagrants frequent the lower portion of the park occasionally - so I wouldn't take my kids here. There is a small and basic play area near the entrance which is safe and the entry is free.
The park is very popular with Durban's local Indian community over the weekend, especially Sundays. It is packed with families picnicking etc.....so this might be the best time to go if you're otherwise concerned about security.....if you can find a parking, that it!

“Sadly neglected”
Reviewed 29 October 2012

It seems that the maintenance is lacking, in comparison with old days, a lot is neglected. ponds/ gardens/ ornamental pieces broken not painted., Also overun with monkey population, making picknicking a bad idea..
