The motto is "I know a place that feels like home " and having just spent 8 weeks at the Acorn B&B on a business trip, it is true to its word. Don "the Owner" went out of his way to ensure we were comfortable, and felt relaxed. The standard of accomodation was excellant, fresh crisp clean and tidy but at the same time welcoming with the homely touch.

We truly enjoyed having you stay at Acorn B&B It was very strange not seeing you at the dinning room table having your breakfast/dinner. Thank you for positive comments and your friendship.
Kind regards

On a recent work trip (two nights) I found myself visiting a quaint bed and breakfast. Don the owner was a great help in getting me settled. The stay was a pleasant one and the breakfasts delicious. Exactly what I need for my short stay.

I will be sure to revisit when I am next in Durban, South Africa.

Room Tip: I believe I was upstairs. This had a bit if a view from the rear of the building and it was surprisi...

We stayed here just for 2 nights (25-03-12 to 27-03-12) as we were supposed to join our ship from durban port. But tthe stay was very relaxing after the tiring 8 hours flight from dubai. The main especiality of Acorn B&B is that u will feel a very homely atmosphere in here (thats what I felt). Its loacted in the mids of the residential area and its very calm & quite.U will get very facility like swimming pool, fitness area (gym), Wi-fi facilty (only for surfing..cannot download big items like song or movies) and a beautiful lawn area. The owner and their staff were very friendly and prompt and did very thing possible to make out short stay comfortable.Oh yes...forgot to mention about the owner's highly trained dog "temy" who is also very friendly (if u like pets) and also serves the purpose of a security Dog.Rooms r very neat & clean, beds r comfy, food is home made (which I like very much). But if u have any special request for any ur kind of food, they will try their level best to serve u that. Its a perfect place to stay with family or friends if u want a homely atmosphere.

Room Tip: Room beside the swimming pool is the best of the lot, because its gives u little bit of more privacy...

We spent two nights here on Easter 2013. What an oasis! Very nice, tastefully decorated room, including air condition and welcome sherry, but no door to our bathroom/shower. Very nice garden, veranda and library/lounge. Host Don is very hospitable and obliging who puts his heart and soul in his b&b. He can give many tips for Durban. The b&b is located in a cul-de-sac, so it is quiet, on a hill facing the city and the sea, which can't be seen, though. Nearby 24hrs gas station shop. 10-15 minute walk through good and safe neighbourhood to the Florida Road restaurant area. Worth the money and highly recommended.

This was a green oasis in the great and quivering city of Durban.
We much enjoyed the host's explanations over fever trees and the garden and rooms nicely decorated African objects, and of course, the welcom drink offered to us in our rooms. A generous place, fully safe and with a map of former visitors wordwide. Be the first of your region! I was the first guest from Cologne!!

It is always a pleasure to share the bit of knowledge I have of the Indigenous trees and plants that flourish so well in Durban. It is so rewarding having visitors who are interested to learn and do as much as possible to learn about Durban and the South African way of life.
Look forward to welcoming you again to Durban

I recently had the great pleasure of staying at the Acorn B&B outside of downtown Durban for three days this past week. The service was incredible as the owner and his wife paid attention to every detail. Don Atkinson and his wife Barbara extended every conceivable hospitality to each guest - including picking up and returning people to the airport, taking people to restaurants in the area, dropping people off wherever they wished, introducing guests to local artisans, offering to take guest to game nearby preserves....., and so much more. Frankly, I have rarely witnessed such exquisite hospitality.

Meals were fresh and tasty in a very charming botanical setting of sorts. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable and quiet, and with air conditioning that ran nearly silently. And who could argue with the price, given this level of quality and personal charm.

If this B&B were on the beach the owners could easily charge a small fortune for such impeccable service and accommodations, and I doubt anyone would bat an eye.

I give this place my highest recommendation, and for that matter, the only recommendation I have ever put to writing. While the B&B is not on the beach, it sits in a nice suburb within walking distance to some first rate restaurants, and it is just a short ride to the beaches. In my view, you can't go wrong with this lovely B&B.
