“Unpretentious, authenitically Greek”
Reviewed 18 August 2013

This is a very small venue (about 8 tables), situated in Morningside. But being away from Florida Road, you'll always find parking. But it's often full, so it's best to book. That has to say something about the place. The food is authentically Greek: in fact the entire place could have been transported, from well, Delphi. For me the mezze is the best thing on the menu - I keep meaning to order just that, but forget.

Prices on main courses and specials are amazingly low, so it's great value. Desserts are limited, but my friends say the baklava is the best in town.

For me, the one negative is that service can be very slow, as the one waiter is usually rushing from table to table. But, if you're just out for a relaxing evening and don't mind the wait, then you won't be bothered by that.

“First Timers Dissapointment”
Reviewed 5 August 2013

On reading the reviews on this website we decided to take friends along with us and try a Greek experience for the first time. What a terrible dissapointment. The other reviews mentioned Ambiance-what ambiance ? We ordered calamari, the order was mixed up and wrong. It was then taken back and supposedly corrected. Firstly is was cold and the calamari tasted like cold macaroni. Secondly the garlic that was supposed to be on the calamari came halfway through the meal and was so overpowering that it spoiled everything. The sweets were so expensive for the amount that was received. One could fit some of the sweets (figs) under ones teaspoon.
Traditional Greek Food ? Maybe one or two on the Menu.

“Pleasant local Greek”
Reviewed 29 June 2013

A group of seven of us enjoyed dinner at Delfi last week, an unassuming local restaurant of many years standing, which I am pleased to note has maintained its high standard of food, friendliness and value for money. Once again the calamari starter was excellent, as were the traditional Greek salad and Maria's prawns, which I can never resist. The place has a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and was, as usual, completely full which probably contributed to the slightly too relaxed service - we waited for our drinks and we waited to order and we waited much too long for each course. The food was worth the wait, but it did detract a little from our enjoyment of the evening, hence my score not being "excellent".

“Little Gem”
Reviewed 22 May 2013

We were invited to have dinner here on our last evening of the Tourism Indaba 2013. Very unassuming little place and if you didnt know of it would more than likely do a drive-by. It is a beautifully small and intimate restaurant seating no more than about 40 I would say. Family owned and run and the food is really good and reasonably priced.

We started off by having a selection of mezze platters - these were some of the best I have had and can highly recommend this!

All in all it was a lovely evening, plates were broken and fun was had by all..

“First Timers Wonderful Evening”
Reviewed 14 April 2013

We were lucky enough to be invited to Delfi by some of our Durban family. We arrived not knowing what to expect. A true gem - family run Greek Restaurant in the heart of Morning side. A tale of two sisters and perhaps there was a third one somewhere behind the scenes. Intimate, down to earth but seriously delicious salt of the earth fare.

We started off with the Meze - a selection the house specialities of dolmades, feta, salads, olives, prawns and calamari. For the main, we ordered a delicious sea food platter of the line fish of the day which happened to be red roman, prawns, mussels and grilled calamari. The lamb I am told is superb as are the chicken options - but tonite we we keen on something from the sea!

We were very well looked after, rounding off with desserts of baklava and another equally delicious dish I unfortunately cannot remember!

The wine list was adequate and the two bottles of Hartenberg Chardonnay went down very well for our table of 4!

Highly recommended - fabulous in its homely simplicity, rare authenticity and good value!
