The major pro to the hotel is... You guessed. .. the location. Right on the esplanade and within 150m of the sea and surf.
●Average rooms
●Full breakfast, plenty of food, nothing exotic but you and your kids will have a good start to the day.
●Parking can be tricky. Limited underground space - no room for cars with roof racks/boxes or vehicle with boot carriers, we found the descent angle of the driveway too steep.
●Access to rest of the touristy stuff is very good, e.g. Moses M. Stadium is within walking/cycling distance

The reservation process was a nightmare and the reservation clerk, named Nikki, was sullen and very unhelpful. When we finally arrived, the receptionist was quite friendly and we were placed in a room on the sixth floor. Room was being cleaned when we arrived, but smelled fresh and were neat and tidy. However, due to a problem with the door, we were moved to the 14th floor. This room however, was dirty. Under the beds, I saw thick dust and the toilet was dirty, even though it had a seal on to show it was cleaned. I had to clean the loo myself as the dirt was clearly visible. The shower was filled with sand and I found the previous visitors' hair lying on the floor. The shower was grimy and the dirt can be clearly seen on the glass panel. The windows were so dirty you could not see through it and the curtains had mould at the bottom.
Regardless, the breakfast was good and the location excellent and within walking distance to Moses Mabhida Stadium and the restaurants at the casino. Taxis are found in front of the hotel, and if for example you want to go to Ushaka, it will cost you R60 per trip. If you do choose this hotel, it is best to ask for a room below the tenth floor, as not all the lifts go up the the higher floors.

We stayed at the Blue Waters hotel for three nights. While the facade of the building is looking rather tired, the interior has been recently renovated and our room (twin on the 7th floor) was very well appointed and neat. The service was average, however I would attribute this to the fact that the hotel was at or near capacity. The breakfast buffet was nice and the pizzas downstairs are fantastic. The only downside was that the wifi was unreliable and extremely slow. Other than that an good hotel at a very moderate price.

My wife and I booked this hotel knowing it was not the best in Durban but had some good reviews. However nothing prepared us for what we experienced. We are on day two of six days here...we need "Hotel Impossible" to help here.

On the plus side the food is excellent and the waiter service for the food is excellent. The location is also excellent, right on the beachfront.

We arrived after an 11 hour drive. We we not allowed park in the car park until we paid an additional fee. My wife double parked while I unloaded the car with some assistance. We got an allocated bay (after parting with 350 rand for the privilege) however it was also shared with the maintenance team from the hotel so had to park in the hotel next door.

We get to the room for a cool drink (extra 10 rand to get ice each time)and it was not as advertised at all. No balcony as per the deluxe specs and widow facing the wall of another hotel and the door (window across the hall) facing the cleaning crew doing the hotel laundry).

The excuses we got for the bad room were;
1. If we gave your room to another guest the would complain as well
2. Your booking engine told us to give you this room
3. We will change you in the morning
4. The hotel website is wrong when it gives the room specifications
5. You can move out today if you wish, let us know so we can get the cleaners to clean your room
6. The internet only works if you stand next to your room door in the hallway, not in the room
7. We will fix/reattach the toilet seat when you check out(cleaner)

I have 4 more nights. So we are living in hell, with our car in another hotel, withing this in the doorway as I watch the laundry staff at work, using the lobby to use the public toilet. I have stayed in many many hotels, the reception staff are the worst I have come across, from Pakistan to China....Oh and if you want a balcony room don't book here as they told me they are booked out for the next 12 months!!

It's not an classy hotel, but have an interesting value for money relation. The room was old, but big. A little bit noisy. The breakfast was good but really busy. It his in front of the sea and some rooms have also the view of the Stadium.
