“very comfortable hotel, unfriendly location”
Reviewed 7 December 2012

This is a nice, modern hotel, poorly located in a part of the city where nobody walks after dark and no restaurants or otehr attractions are available.
It is an economically-convenient alternative for those attending a conference at the international congress centre, located three blocks away.
The ocean front is also a few blocks away, but nobody walks to get there... and the hotel staff, very friendly and helpful, strongly suggest you to be back before sunsets, if you decide to go out on foot.

I stayed four days and it is a great location and the rooms are nice. Nothing spectacular the lack of any facilities like restaurant etc is a negative but because of location there are many places next door. For a short stay its a good place longer term its lack of facilities make it less enjoyable. Having to go out for everything gets a bit of a drag after a while.

The hotel receptions / foyer seems fine and modern. however a different scene awaits you once you enter the bedrooms, which are extremely dated. Rooms lack any modern finishings and to be honest the make-up, finishings, bedding etc seems very old, the fact is they are old. If you are into new modern rooms and designs then this is not the place for you. Comparably there are much better hotels around the area, at about the same price, which may be a better choice.

This was just a quick trip and a one night stay, but it was the first time I'd stayed in a City Lodge for some years. The standard of the hotel seems to have remained the same, memory permitting. The room was standard and up to scratch and the only gripe would be the time it took to check in. Furthermore, our group of 4 was offered to helpitself to complimentary drinks - unfortunately there weren't any as the sherry was finished.

As has been said this is a great hotel for Comrades. The hotel rooms are clean and the beds are good. Although the bar could be improved in terms of its hours and selection the restaurant located in the same area offers decent food although from a limited selection. The service however is excellent and staff will go out of their way to assist you.

A small but annoying negative to this property is the internet service which is basically non existent, even after purchasing a code from reception.

We stayed at the City lodge for the weekend of the Comrades. We booked this hotel through a package from Pentravel in Capetown.

I loved the City Lodge. For what it was. The 3 stars does not do it justice. The rooms are clean and spacious. The coffee shop in the hotel provides a really good breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They serve until 10.00pm. The staff are friendly and helpful. It is central and served its purpose for comrades.

The Expo and the finish line was a quick walk. No fussing over parking and crowds.

I would recommend this hotel for business and to anyone who wants a hassle free Comrades.

Thank you City Lodge for a wonderful stay.
