Owner description: Markets of Warwick Tour is a 2.5 hours walking tour through the 9 informal markets in Warwick Junction. Warwick Junction lies on the edge of the Durban's inner-city and is the primary public transport interchange in the city. On an average day the area accommodates 460 000 commuters, and at least 6000 street vendors. Given the confluence of rail, taxi and bus transport, this area has always been a natural market for street vendors. The Markets of Warwick includes between 5000 and 8000 vendors trading in 9 distinct markets. Currently this is the only informally structured market in a public space of this magnitude, and thus establishes itself as the single most authentic African market that South Africa has to offer. The products available vary from beadwork, traditional arts and crafts, traditional cuisine, fresh produce, music and entertainment merchandise, clothing, accessories and traditional medicine. We run tours everyday between 9:30 - 12:00 and 13:00 - 15:30.

This tour was a great experience. We were guided through the 9 markets of Warwick and allowed plenty of time to look around and shop. Our guide was very informative and patient. You really felt like you were experiencing something very authentic to Africa. We were lucky to be there on a Friday and get to experience the bead market. Definitely try to do this one! Buy more than you think you want to because as you travel more in South Africa, you will find that the prices are as much as 5 times as much as the items are sold for in the bead market - and you get to see them making the items right in front of you. I regret not buying more! If you are looking for something unique and interesting to do in Durban, this is a great use of your time and money (2.5 hours for 100 Rand).

These days we are so quick to jump on a plane and head off to others parts of the country or the world. Try exploring your own city. That is what we did as a group of ladies on Friday 19 June and was it well worth it. What can you get for R100,00 for 2.5 hours of entertainment. The market is extremely clean. Toe was an amazing guide and lead us through the various markets and explained what each market was about and the history relating to the market. It is amazing that we drive on the roads above and under this network is a bustling hive of people trading and making an honest living. The security was there although not glaringly visible and at no stage did any of the ladies feel unsafe or uncomfortable. I would recommend this tour to ALL tourists, whether you live in Durban or beyond.

The tour was very well organised and very informative. I highly recommend going on a tour as it is well run and the community values the support of visitors. The Bovine Head and the Herb and Muthi market are not for the faint hearted, but the markets show the essence of South African culture. I recommend going on a Friday as this is the only day of the week that the bead market is open, and this small colorful market was the highlight of our visit. We had an american exchange student with us and she loved it and was able to buy many cheap souvenirs to take home.

This is an informative and very well run tour. They have their timing down to a tea so that you cover all of the markets but still arrive back on time. All of this done without without ever feeling rushed.

This isn't just a tour of the markets but also provides you with an insight into local cultures and some of the slight, and not so slight differences.

Did not feel unsafe at any point as the stall operators have decided to prevent the crime by a group of stall holders banding together to discourage and wipe out crime. These are volunteers, and one was present with us on the entire tour.

Toe Shozi was an excellent (and very patient!) guide - we went on the tour as part of an outing with Westville Camera Club. What an interesting and very informative tour it was, showing a part of Durban which we normally see on as we speed by on the freeways. We all felt incredibly safe despite carrying expensive equipment and learned so much about this fascinating part of our city. Highly recommended!
