“Beautiful Original Durban home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 May 2012

Just spent 5 nights at Essenwood House on the Berea. What a beautiful home. Rooms are HUGE, bathrooms too. VERY comfortable. Views to die for, you can see right down to the beachfront and the lights at night are spectacular. John and his staff are great, nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast outside on the patio with the newspaper of the day are a must. Very well located, close to restaurants, shops, movies and town. Will be back soon.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front have better views and sunlight.

Essenwood House is a wonderful, inexpensive place to stay in Durban. The location is both safe and has wonderful views over Durban and the coast. Nothing is too much trouble for John and his staff, even the full english breakfast really hits the spot. I will definetly be returning for more.

Room Tip: Room 5 was perfect for me, great views from the balcony

My wife and I stayed at Essenwood House while on holiday in Natal. We enjoyed the quiet luxury of Essenwood House, and the warmth of our host, John. Our only regret was that we could not stay longer. Very comfortable and spacious, we were able to relax as if we were at home. The breakfast was great. Thank you, John, for a great stay. We will certainly choose Essenwood House agin when we return to Durban.

I and my two colleagues had a three night stay at Essenwood House for a business trip from the UK. John, Paddy and staff are the perfect hosts, nothing is too much trouble. After a day of business arriving back at Essenwood, walking through the garden and sitting on the balcony with a cold beer is paradise! The view of Durban city and the coastline is sublime. The rooms are more than adequate, as is the attention to detail. Florida road is very close by and I must also recommend a trip to Butcher Boys for a prime rib. Essenwood house is a rare gem, full of character and charm, thoroughly recommended for all connoisseurs.

Room Tip: Room number 1 is my personal favourite

My husband and I stayed here for just one night and we wished we could have stayed so much longer!

We arrived very early but were happily welcomed and shown to our beautifully prepared room - no one had any issues with us arriving so early! We stayed in the 'honeymoon room' (room 1) and it is breathtakingly beautiful, huge, clean and an amazing balcony with stunning views over Durban to the beaches.

The house is decorated beautifully and breakfast was excellent.

We would not hesitate to recommend Essenwood house and would definitely stay here again if we were in Durban again.

My husband and I came to Durban for a wedding and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Essenwood House. We arrived late at night but were welcomed none the less. Our room had a lovely balcony overlooking the very inviting-looking swimming pool, with a view of the sea in the distance. The room itself was very spacious, well furnished, and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was delicious. I would recommend it to friends looking for accomodation in Durban.
