Stayed at Essenwood House for two weekends in February 2011 together with my husband and toddler. It has a perfect location in a very nice area, close to Florida rd and big parks, a zoo and the botanical garden. Great view and the rooms are spacious!

My toddler loved the three dogs and John also provided some toys for our son. It was great sitting outside on the verandah when the little one was asleep, and John is really helpful with everything from ordering taxis to food.

The breakfast is superb, and you also get the news paper.

The only minus was that the garden (which is really beautiful!) is quite steep, so our son could not run around there much without us helping him not to fall.

I would love to stay there again.

Cannot rave enough about Essenwood House. A gorgeous property, high enough on the hill to catch both the sea view and sea breezes. John and Paddy are warm and welcoming, happy to arrange airport transfers and other transport, restaurant bookings, etc. I've now stayed in the Honeymoon Suite twice in two years, and it combines relaxing beach tones with comfort (and a great selection of TV channels). Breakfast on the terrace, with good lunch/dinner options within short walking distance. Have stayed in guest houses around South Africa, and this ranks up there with the best. I'll be back.

My wife and I travelled to S. Africa for the World Cup and sight-seeing and this was our first stop. John was masterful - he knew exactly what we'd enjoy, directed us to wonderful restaurants, and organized a private tour of the city. He was also great at giving us directions, and weather reports for our trip Cape Town. The house is located in a very nice neighborhood, but unfortunately there aren't a lot of restaurants within walking distance. Other than that, everything about Essenwood was great - we'd love to stay again when we make it back to S. Africa.
