“Safe & Superb Sanctuary”
Reviewed 1 December 2013

The Durban Botanical Gardens is a haven of tranquility that offers young & old an opportunity to truly appreciate a magnificent natural setting in the midst of the city.
Featuring extensive & well-manicured lawns; a diverse ecosystem of plant and animal life; a small lake supporting a number of bird species (Ducks, Egyptian Geese, Ibis, Spoonbill, Heron, Pelican, just to name a few); an outstanding orchid house & Koi pond; and a peaceful tea garden offering timeless favourites of scones & crumpets. This is a "must visit" for locals and tourists alike!
Entrance to this popular sanctuary is free, and security is evident for your safety.

“Good outdoor activity”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

This park has been kept in pristine condition. It is lovely for a stroll around, to take baby for a walk in a stroller. There is a tea garden for refreshments. They have music under the stars by the lake which on a clear evening is magnificent. Some music performances are held on a weekend afternoon. Safe parking and patrolled so one feels safe

“Nature in the city”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Hidden in the hustle and bustle of Durban's Berea you can enjoy this gem of a location. The are ducks waddling around and many other wild birds. A peaceful lake is to be found in the centre with wooden benches placed around. Take your own lunch beverages or visit the tea garden. Also bring a blanket to lie under the trees in the shade and read a book plus catch a nap. Security guards patrol the well maintained area.
