“Only stay there if you really have no alternative”
Reviewed 2 September 2013

A group of our employees stayed there during June 2013. The red lights did go on when this establishment (as well as their sister hotel) was the only one with availability for our required dates, but we simply had to be in Durban for these dates.
I stayed at eMakhosini during 2006 and back then it was an excellent establishment.
Today it is bit run down with unfriendly and unprofessional staff. Management is surely to blame for such a slide in service levels.

Avoid this hotel if you can.

Room Tip: Ask for another room if nr 7 is assigned to you.

Noisy, unprofessional, unpleasant. We stayed in room 24. It was meant to be one of the best rooms in the hotel - according to the receptionist. It was sort of in the basement and opened straight onto the car park. No cover from the rain and every car that arrived or left disturbed us. Including a big arrival at 4.30am! Breakfast was dreadful. In room coffee was Ricoffy! Not one clear television channel.

Our firm recently booked this hotel at rather short notice for a conference. The arrangements were done promptly and to our satisfaction. The venue has ample parking and is siutated in a quiet area away from the noise of the city.Staff are friendly and helpful ensuring that all needs were catered for. Meals were prepared as per our request which all thoroughly enjoyed.

Definitely value for money and would not hesitate in using the facilities again.

Stayed there for a week in summer and I loved every minute of it. It's a small place, but very cozy. Staff is friendly and ready to help you with anything needed. View from the room was amazing. Even had little visitors outside, local wildlife what I think is interesting.
Would love to stay there again on my next visit.

We recently stayed at the Emakhosini hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the staff were exceptional, there was nothing more that they could have done to make us so welcome and comfortable. The rooms have the most amazing features and as our friends stayed in some rooms as well, we managed to see that each room was different but tastefully decorated. The hotel was convenient for us with a few minutes walk to the bars and night life on Florida Road. We had breakfast and a few meals at the hotel, the food was absolutely delicious, great variety and always service with a smile. We will definitely visit again and most certainly stay at Emakhosini hotel, its a 5 star boutique hotel and with the great service, we look forward to our next stay in the near future.

Room Tip: all rooms are decorated differently but of great standard

Just to let all those considering this venue as a wedding venue BE WARNED! I attended a small wedding on 24 September 2011 and a large gift which I had brought for the couple was stollen as well as a large sum of cash from a gift envelope!! No one seems to know what happened to the gift, nor do the staff seem to be willing to assist or take ownership of that fact that there is clearly a theft issue within their establishment. I was told to 'refer to the contract' which, as a guest I didn't sign nor had a view of and just because a contract was signed, does it mean Management dont need to acknowledge or take responsibility for issues like these?
