“Amazing Gardens and Location”
Reviewed 21 July 2013

We stayed at MyThai in May 2013 for 4-nights when we were in Durban. We were on the road for a while and all we needed is a nice place where we could rest. The location is amazing. You are on Florida Road which is lively (in Durban standards) during the night. We walked around until 11 pm. We had great dinner at Butcher Boys! Try T-Bone. MyThai had amazing gardens where we sit/read for hours. Lilian was very helpful with our needs and questions. There is also a tourist info office 6 blocks from MyThai. Room was comfortable and quiet. We received room service once a day even we didn't need it. Part of the deal, I guess. We also had a car and Lilian let us park in the premises. There is a guard that works all night. It felt super safe.

So enjoyed our stay. An oasis can highly recommend this place. It has a Thai theme with a wonderful garden.
Lots of areas to sit and relax, wonderful service, great breakfasts, close to Florida road and all the great restaurants . Will definitely go back there.

Normally I stay in hotels when in Durban. So glad I didn't this time round. Mythai is this tranquil little haven in the most ideal spot. With easy access to the bustle of Florida Road and the beaches just a short drive away. Lillian and her staff were brilliantly hospitable and made my stay hassle free, recommending taxi service, places of interests etc. Rooms are spacious but if you like me, you tend to spend your time outside on the deck in the breeze or just feeling some of that Durban heat under a canopy of palm trees. Enjoyed my 5 days and would definitely stay here again as opposed to a stuffy hotel.

Room Tip: Room facing the deck and pool is the most comfortable.

I recently stayed at Mythai and can recommend the experience to anyone looking for personal service in an excellent Durban location. Lillian was very helpful and hospitable throughout my stay . . . nothing was too much trouble, my room was very comfortable, stylish and clean and the breakfast was excellent . . . they cook your breakfast in front of you in an open kitchen. The decked outside areas and grounds were all very relaxing.
The location is right on the Florida road which has many upmarket bars and quality restaurants as well as boutique shops and art galleries, only negative was that when dining in the otherwise excellent Butcher Boy steak house they would not serve my rib eye with a fried egg . . . very disappointing.
They also have an excellent local taxi driver Mr Singh who provided me with very good rates and lots of local knowledge.

We had a two night stay at Mythai and enjoyed it.
The rooms are spacious and very clean, although a little tired. Lillian (the owner) is in the middle of refurbing everything.
We were treated very well and as first time visitors to Durban were pleasantly surprised by the tranquility the garden decking and pool area invoked. You could be in Thailand!
The guest house has easy access to the many bars and restaurants on Florida Road.
Breakfast is served overlooking the pool and is more than enough to start the day.
Lillian helped us with advice on where to dine- and it was within walking distance.
The pool area is a haven in such a busy city.
I would stay again if I make it back to Durban.

I stayed here for two weeks while working at a conference - our team's early starts, late night internet and an array of requests were all accommodated by the helpful manager, who even drove us to the local printers. The place is done out in a Thai style with decking, small pools, plants etc and it was an oasis of calm amid a hectic work schedule and in the middle of a large city. But the drive also opens onto Florida Rd, a main road with bars and restaurants, so you can have dinner and walk home safely. Definitely recommended.

Room Tip: My room was down in a separate building - huge room and very peaceful for sleeping, but the wifi did...

We stayed here for the world cup semi final. The location is the best in Durban. Back gate access to Florida Road. Fantastic restaurants and shops. Easy walking distance to football and rugby stadium. Great staff and great breakfast. We absolutely loved it.
