We came to this hotel after having stayed two nights prior at a hotel with no heat and the outside temperature at or below freezing so the first things we looked for in the room was a heater and were relieved to find it. Things kept getting better from there.

The room was clean and comfortable, pleasant although not luxurious.

We went to the spa and had a 2 1/2 hour couples package for a very reasonable price our first day there. The front desk arranged a boxed lunch so we could get on the road for our game drive immediately afterwards. The lunch was delicious and generous.

The hotel offers game drives and a boat cruise out onto a lake to see animals. We feel the boat cruise is not to be missed. The guides on the drives and cruise were very knowledgeable and pleasant to spend those hours with.

I had a bison burger at the terrace restaurant between game drives that was quite good and my husband said his fish and chips were third only to his favorites in New Zealand and Vancouver.

The bathroom could have used a bit of freshening as it seemed a bit dingy and the hook that was previously on the back of the door wasn't there any more but the hole for it was. This was the only area on the entire property that wasn't pristine, they even came to sweep flower petals off the patio area off our room.

This property is in the middle of nowhere so if you are an overseas traveler who thinks you will go walking around afterwards to explore, that is probably not recommended as there is not much to do.

Dear BeenTo7Continents,
Thank you for your review. Mkuze is usually very warm but can get chilly in winter. We're happy that you found the heaters! Also that you had a good stay with us with spa treatments, boat trips and game drives.
We look forward to hopefully welcoming you back on your next trip to South Africa.

We stayed for 2 nights at the Ghost Mountain Inn as part of a tour. When our small party arrived the manager Sean was waiting to welcome us, we were offered refreshments and introduced to the senior staff. From the moment we arrived Sean and his team were so helpful and friendly, if we had a problem, it was dealt with immediately. We took a trip to the local game reserve and the hotel's resident guide Adam was really informative and took the time to explain everything and answer all our questions. The accommodation, food, hotel and grounds were wonderful but the staff were outstanding, we have travelled widely and can honestly say we have never been to a more friendly hotel. We stayed at Ghost Mountain for two nights, en route from Johannesburg to the coast. It's an easy 5.5 hours drive, since all the construction on the N2 has now been finalized. The hotel is very relaxed, with comfortable rooms (although the standard rooms need a refurb, especially the bathrooms) and a beautiful garden. The Garden Rooms look very good and all Superior Rooms are busy being upgraded.
The kids loved the canoeing on the hotel's very own dam and we all enjoyed the cruise on the Swadini Dam. Food is ok, only point of criticism is that on the evening of the a la carte dinner quite a few items of the already very limited menu were not available.
Very child friendly property, very nice staff, all in all a great getaway.
Game reserves, i.e. MkuzeGR only a short drive away.
No in-room wifi, but complimentary wifi in the main area.

Room Tip: I would avoid standard rooms, the Garden Rooms are more spacious and in much better shape. Garden Ro...

This place really has everything, the accommodation was fab, but must say the first night we had no A/C in our room so the very next day we were moved to the most amazing suite didn't want to leave. The surroundings were lovely the dining room, bar and restaurant were clean and comfortable, as were the rooms. A good sized pool with plenty of loungers around. The food was really nice too. We went up into the mountain to see a Zulu homestead where Justice lived and he told us his family history which was really interesting a long way from our life style. We did a game reserve which was equally wonderful. The Inn is right next to a fab lake with a boardwalk to get you there, the pond life and birds were beautiful, would hurry back in a flash, all in all a really fab place to stay!!

Room Tip: Try and get a suite AMAZING!! and very comfortable beds!!

We stayed 2 nights in a garden room and enjoyed our time immensely. The grounds are lush, quiet and well kept. They are in the process of renovating some of the rooms and cautioned that we might hear some noise after breakfast but all was quiet and serene. The staff is outstanding and very accommodating. Jean arranged for us to take a guided tour up to a Zulu homestead – home of Justice and his extended family. Highly recommend this side trip. You actually go up into the mountains and see firsthand the home and life of the people in this village. And don’t feel sorry for them because they don’t have all of the things that most westerners have e.g., running water, flushing toilets. The children run and play with the dogs, chase the chickens and push each other around in a wheel barrel. No video games in sight. Another perk to staying at Ghost Mountain Inn is the close proximity of Mkuze Game Reserve. This is a self-drive reserve and has incredible hides. Spent several hours our first morning watching nyala, zebra, baboons, warthogs and wildebeest come down to drink from the waterhole. Food at Ghost Mountain is delicious and depending on the weather is served either in the main lodge dining area or outside in the bar area. And make sure you get a coffee. Best in South Africa.

Ghost Mountain Inn is a great place to stay in northern Zululand. The staff are extremely friendly and willing to go the extra mile for you. Jean, the woman who does the game drives, is very knowledgeable and passionate about the bush and surrounding areas. She took us into Mkuze for a drive that was amazing -- not just for the scenery but also for the passion she shared about the reserve and the little bits of knowledge she shared with us.

Dear stephmiami,
We're delighted to hear that you had a great stay with us and that Jean was able to share Mkhuze game reserve with you and what makes it such a special spot. Thanks for your review and also for those great pics of the reflection of the mountains in the water. Great pics!
