“Shocking”
Reviewed 14 July 2012 via mobile

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The staff were appalling and the hotel needs TLC. The worst of it all was that my room was bug infested and I, after checking out after one night, went home with bites all over my legs.

The staff seriously needs an attitude adjustment. They should be reminded without guests, they do not have a job. Hotel needs TLC. The dining times are ridiculous. Real clock watchers, food is removed from buffet 10 mins before closing. Meals are served in a rush. After 8pm the staff just Disappear. After dinner you have to go searching for somebody to serve drinks.

I've stayed here, and the Cutty Sark (nearby). They are on par to be honest. They're both seaside hotels that date from a bygone era. Someone forgot to close them down. This one you have the added inconvenience of having to cross a railway line to get down to the beach, and the gate keeps strict and restrictive hours. Good views. Old style food, decor and fittings. Moldy. The service is aloof, and the desk staff don't see your convenience as their ultimate goal. They'll keep you waiting, do their lengthy paperwork, call the bell-hop who eventually appears just to carry your little satchel etc. Nobody has the confidence to talk to you, explain the delay etc. Generally a problem on this coast that used to be the best, but now has been forgotten and surpassed by other regions. Sad really. But this hotel is fine for a quick stay i guess. Just dont book more thn two nights. You cannot eat that kind of food for that long!

Room Tip: upper floors, away from railway line

Be very careful, their security is not up to scratch at all, we were in an armed robbery with guns and knives, lives threatened and lots of belongings stolen, bank cards, cell phones, very traumatic experience, will not go again, 4 weeks later, lady was raped in this Hotel, after our incident so therefore they did not up their security

We stayed here for 10 nights, we found it to be comfortable, clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The pool and gardens were also kept clean and tidy, and yes it might be in need of a little tlc, but look beyond that and you will see a lovely hotel with lovely staff working there. The breakfast was brilliant, a good selection of different fruit and cereals etc, and our waiter was really friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: we had a view overlooking the sea so it was brilliant

We had been to the Blue Marlin Hotel before and the kids loved it. We were going to the coast again so we thought we'd give the kids another stay at their "favourite" hotel. We now knew what to expect from our last stay. Again, the room was awful! Cupboard doors warped, bedside tables coming away from the head board, terrible bathroom with awful shower curtain that turned the floor into a private pond. Even the kids (now 2 years older) were disappointed. BUT it's the staff that make the memories. So friendly and accommodating. The evening we were there there was a cabaret show after supper. I joked with my husband about the member of the group that were setting up. A motley crew of older women (some quite large) "It's probably them doing the show too!" And low and behold...out came this group of women and one man - the average age being 60 - performing to a backing track....but they were hilarious! It was a really enjoyable show. So...if you're not fussy about where you sleep, and go for quantity over quality when it comes to food - stay here and have a "jolly good time!"
P.S. It's always packed with families and the kids disappear to play all day and all night.

Not sure how this could be a three star hotel. Booked for two nights, left after one night. Not well maintaned for many years. Staff the only postive attribute. Do yourself a favour: Avoid.
