“A home from home!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2013

I fully recommend Anchor's Rest if you wish to stay in Durban - friendly staff who will do what they can to make your stay more comfortable. A great choice for those who prefer a more homely environment rather than a large chain hotel.

Thanks so much for your great review. We are pleased that you had a few days at Anchor's Rest so that you could enjoy the facilities of the Guest House, as well as those of Umhlanga Rocks, which is a 'gem' of a place.

Being located so close to the centre of Umhlanga is a great advantage as you can walk everywhere. I was particularly pleased to read that you enjoyed the garden and found it tranquil.

Watch our 'special offers' on TripAdvisor so that you can come back for another stay before too long.

Warm regards
Cilla, Peter and Sandy

We had a wonderful three night stay. The location is fantastic and the self catering facilities were excellent. Very friendly and helpful staff and would love to go back if we have a chance. Garden was also well maintained and very tranquil.

We were delighted to read that you had rest and relaxation at Anchor's Rest after competing in the World Transplant games. Congratulations on taking part in the Games! I have passed on your lovely compliments to Peter and Sandy, who say 'thank you' very much. Peter is such a good host that it is great for him to get such positive feedback.

We think Darcy and Benson do add value to the Guest House and we are pleased to tell you that we have a new addition to the canine family in the form of a 12 week old female German Shepherd called Jade. We hope you will be able to come back for another visit before Jade gets too big.

Warm regards

We found this place on Tripadvisor and loved it! The B&B is situated along a road full of B&Bs, but we would certainly consider staying here again! It was too bad that we only had one night here and it was before we had a flight that departed at 6 AM the next day. The honesty bar with the amazing view was one of the highlights. We wish we could have stayed longer to actually have the breakfast or perhaps take a dip in the pool. Location wise, it was within walking distance to a number of restaurants, bars, and the beach, which made it very convenient for travelers without a car.

The only downside was that we ended up with the room next to the breakfast area and the noise from the honesty bar wasn't necessarily insulated well. That might have just been because the door wasn't closed between the bar and the breakfast area.

Nonetheless, despite this, we look forward to staying here in the future!

Thank you for taking the time to write such a great, comprehensive review of Anchor's Rest. It is indeed a pity that you were here for such a short time, but I am pleased that in this limited time you enjoyed yourselves at the Guest House. Next time we hope that you will be able to stay for longer so that you can enjoy the delicious breakfast and the pool.

We are sorry to hear that you were disturbed by noise from the area of the honesty bar. We now make it a point to close the doors every evening so that guests won't be disturbed by any noise that might come from other guests at the bar area. Thank you for making us aware of this.

Warm regards

Thank to Cilla and Pete for a great stay. We were there for only one night and wished it could have been longer. We had our own beautifully furnished apartment and full use of a fully stocked honesty bar, as well as a guest lounge and verandah.

Thank you for your review. It would have been great if you could have stayed for longer to enjoy the sights and attractions of Umhlanga, which has so much to offer. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your accommodation and the guests' bar which is very popular. Please do come back for another visit and hopefully, a longer one next time.

We were greeted by our hosts Cilla and Peter and of course "Benson" the pavement special rescue dog who is nowadays sporting a very chic sparkly studded collar. The house is perfectly appointed to accommodate every room being occupied - which it was - and you may never see another guest. The communal bar is candle lit by night, completely stocked with anything you can imagine and works on an honor system. On hot days (or nights) you can take a dip in the private pool.

Apart from the usual cereals, jams and yogurts, a hot breakfast is made to order and absolutely delicious. The rooms are cozy and depending on single or double include a kitchenette or at the very least a fridge and microwave.

Everything is immaculate and a great deal of thought has been given to making everybody feel welcome and looked after - even spoiled a little.

We'd go back there in a heartbeat. A comfortable B&B is better than a hotel any day and you just can't beat the personal touch!

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We are delighted that you mentioned Benson who is a real character and loves to meet and greet our guests. It is very special for us when guests enjoy Anchor's Rest and appreciate the facilities, home comforts, etc. We are pleased that your trip down memory lane was a success and that your sons' got to see where 'Dad' grew up. We hope that you will all have fond memories of your trip to S.A. and that you will return for another holiday as we would love to see you back at Anchor's Rest.
