We spent a few nights at Kingston House B&B recently on a business trip to Durban. What a pleasure to find this comfortable, relaxing and homely B&B. The owners, John & Cathy, went out of their way to make us feel at home. Cathy even got up at 4.00am to start breakfast for one of our staff due to Ramadan so that he could eat before sunrise. The breakfast is a must by the way - great way to start the day. The rooms are very spacious, and the bar and entertainment area feels like being at home. The only comment is that the freeway close to the home can be a little noisy during peak traffic times. Otherwise was a great stay.

Me and my Girlfriend stayed in room one (with the jacuzzi extra fees and prior notice apply) twice either side of our stay in KZN. Room one has a semi-private side entrance which we loved as it enabled us to stay out the way and come and go as we pleased. Very quiet and secure area, great restaurants 5 minutes away. Try Little Havana!

Room Tip: Go for the "honeymoon suite" plenty of space and a semi-private entrance round the side

Our last night at Kingston House before moving on to our next holiday location and our overall thoughts are 'what a lovely place and would recommend a stay to anyone'. Our room had an African feel and was decorated with various animal prints and fabrics. A large, immaculate room with those charming extras such as cotton wool pads to remove ones make up in the bathroom, a flask of cold, chilled water and welcome cookies by the coffee tray. A friendly welcome from our hosts and willing to assist where ever possible. All but perfect, except in an ideal world, being closer to the beach would have made it unbeatable.

Have been staying at Kingston House for many years an enjoy the friendly atmosphere and comfortable rooms with air conditioning which is much needed in the summer months. John and Cathy make sure you enjoy your stay and nothing is too much trouble. Of special note is the superb cooked breakfast that John prepares and it is difficult not to have the 'full house' offering.
For those wishing to dine out it is 5 minutes into the village which offers many varied restaurants or one can, by arrangement, enjoy an evening around the upstairs pub sampling John's creations and Cathy's cheesecake. Off street parking is provided and the close proximity to the new Durban airport and main free ways makes this a perfect venue for tourism or business. Mike Klaasen

Room Tip: Book early ...to avoid disappointment!

Located very conveniently close to the new King Shaka airport, Kingston house is a place that immediately feels like home. Spotless comfortable rooms, well equipped bar, pool, several nearby shopping centers and numerous places to eat out. Stay once and you keep coming back. You may even end up becoming a Sharks fan!

A home away from home...it's a phrase often thrown around by hotels and guest houses however Cathy and John make sure this is the case at Kingston House. Having worked in the hospitality industry and therefore staying in the best rated hotels, I must say this place is must stay in whilst in Durban!

My family has stayed at Kingston House B&B twice in the last two years: for one month in November 2009 and for two nights in April 2011. My husband, my children and I have stayed in the Serengeti Room and the Garden Suite and my parents (who were with us on vacation in April 2011) stayed in the Ndlovu Suite. John and Cathy are exceptionally warm and gracious hosts, the rooms are impeccable (the furnishings are beautiful) and the food -- outstanding! The two-course breakfasts outdid anything we had ever experienced at a B&B and for a very reasonable additional fee, John and Cathy will provide an absolutely scrumptious (think gourmet!) dinner upon request (except Friday evenings).

During our (one month) stay in November 2011, John and Cathy were particularly gracious and patient. My husband and I had travelled to South Africa to adopt our oldest son (who was almost three years old at the time) and, as can be expected, the adjustment came with some (behavioral) challenges. John and Cathy were very sympathetic to our challenges and provided much needed support. They were also willing to provide a meal for us every night of our stay, which allowed my husband and me to focus entirely on building our relationship with our son. The B&B is also a two-minute drive from the stunning beach at Umhlanga Rocks and much of our relationship building was done through building sand castles on the beach!

Our family returned to Kingston House B&B (with my parents) as part of a vacation to KZN and Eastern Cape in April 2011. Once again, we were amazed at the quality of the B&B. John and Cathy were particularly attentive to our every need and ensured that our stay -- this time as a family of four (children: 4 and 8 months) -- was spectacular. We left the B&B feeling very rested. : )

Kingston House B&B caters mostly to business travelers and adults -- however, John and Cathy are very welcoming to families with children as well. You will not be disappointed!
