Description: After 17 years set in a quiet little corner in suburban Morningside, Mo Noodles packed up our belongings and headed North to the trendy and bustling neighbourhood of Umhlanga Rocks. Now located in the modern and affluent Beacon Rock centre just off Lighthouse road, Mo's is set back from the hustle of Umhlanga village and as such, has its own private little space to stretch out and get comfortable in. Originally started by husband and wife team Mike and Janine 17 years ago, the restaurant was soon taken over by a very passionate young waitress , Jo-Ann , who, after owning Mo's for a decade, has successfully earned a place for Mo's among the most popular spots in Durban. With the tried and tested standard menu packed with the usual favourites such as the sublime seared calamari with chili and lime to the Thai-styled flavours of the stir-fries, curries and hot & sour soup to the exciting new specials and the addition of a solid craft beer & homemade Iced tea selection, there is something for everyone and all occasions. We've tried to keep it fresh and interesting while maintaining our distinctive style and atmosphere. We're open from 12pm until 3.30pm for lunch & 5.30 until 9pm for dinner, Monday - Saturday. There is something for everyone, vegetarians, vegans & kids are well catered for and nearly everything is available in half portions. Book early to avoid disappointment!

“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 November 2013 via mobile

This must be Durban's most underrated restaurant. If you want to take your taste buds on the best trip they have been in a long time - this is where you need to go - oh wow - really really good Asian fusion type food - the star salad is a favourite and they do line fish really really well.

“Great food and service”

Had lunch with my teenage son and both our meals were delicious. Smiling staff, good service, might have been a bit slow but you are at the coast, relaxed atmosphere and full of enthusiastic patrons.

“Superb meal, great service”

Was my first time with a friend @ Mo's in Umhlanga recently. The lentil and Feta Salad was tasty and to ordered again however my friend's Sesame and Peanut Chicken was not quite what we expected. Nevertheless my vegetarian curry was awesome and cleaned out on the table.

“Great food, spoiled by very slow service (should actually deduct 1/2 a *)”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 October 2013

Mo’s has recently located from Morningside and is clearly very popular. It was buzzing when we were there. The minimalist look for the new venue works well, though the acoustics make it very noisy. (If you want to have a proper conversation over dinner, ask to be seated in the outside area.)

Firstly, the food. It was really good. For starters we had prawn and chicken skewers—both superb. In fact, if I could do it again I’d order the chicken ones as a main. We all enjoyed our entrees: fish of the day, prawn and pineapple curry, and steak with pepper sauce. Everyone enjoyed that what they had ordered, though for the price, the steak was very small. The coriander mash that accompanied it was less successful: somewhat lumpy and a bit too much; it would have been better with less of it and more of the vegetables that it comes with.

Secondly, the service! Pleasant enough, but , oh dear, it was slooooooooooow. There was a wait for our drinks and for them to take our order. Then there was an inordinate wait for the main course. After about 45 minutes our waiter told us it was “just coming”. After another 15 minutes, we asked the manager where our food was. He explained the delay was caused by there being large tables. Eventually it came (and as indicated, it was good). But we were short of some cutlery. It was easier just to go to the back and ask for one directly than to try to get the attention of the waiter. While were eating, another drinks order—another wait.

It’s not like the place was understaffed—there seemed to be enough waiters around, but really Mo’s does need to buck up the service. This is not the first complaint I’ve seen, either.

One last gripe. Obviously there is no smoking inside, but one of the patrons smoked immediately outside the open front, with smoke wafting all the way through the restaurant. My understanding is that the law says no smoking within five metres of an entrance. Yes, it may have been a little awkward management to have asked her to move further away, but (i) it is the law, and (ii) it would have pleased the non-smoking diners whom her smoking was affecting. And anyway, she (the smoker) was using a receptacle to stub her cigarettes that was actually just inside the restaurant, so to that extent Mo’s was actually abetting her.

“Don't expect the same quality as Mo's original!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 September 2013 via mobile

Absolute fan of Mo's Florida Road so when I heard of its opening in Umhlanga I had to try it. Looked great, bright and fresh shop. Waitress was good.. made suggestions. And then the food arrived. :( honestly couldve been prepared at home, better. Calamari was a mangled mess, oily and clumpy and quite clearly from frozen. Side salad was 2 tablespoons of mushy lentils. Small portions and bad quality food. Very very disappointed. Dont see this place lasting long unless they change their gameplan.
