Absolutly stunning location with wonderful facilities. Great hosts. The food was also very good. Lots to do in the area. A really great place to have spent a few days. Easy to find as there are good signs from when you leave the town Underberg. Great road to drive as the view is spectacular.

I was there for 4 nights with my boyfriend, in march 2011, and everything was really great, the bungalow, the garden, the swimming pool, the breakfast, the service, everything was very clean and beautiful decorated. Was a nice experience.

We were lucky enough to have much of the lodge to ourselves for our mid-winter stay. We spent glorious winter mornings reading books under the trees, and walking around the dams with the lovely labradors-in-residence (we are not very dog-type people, and still they were a pleasure to have around).

Breakfasts were good, with several options given, however only served from 08h00 to 09h00 which made having a lie-in a little difficult (served in a different building, requiring a brief but chilly walk).

The setting is superb - the gravel drive is well maintained and provided no obstacle for our little hatchback, and we were able to explore a lot of the area during the four days we were there. Walking through the Marutswa Forest, and then around Cobham (Parks Board) were highlights, and the available options for dinners were more than enough for us.

Definitely worth returning to - we stayed in a 'luxury room' (room 3) and we had a view of a perfect Drakensberg sunrise from our bed every morning. Firewood was provided, however the two fireplaces in our suite (one in the lounge and one in the bedroom) were probably due for a chimney sweep because the rooms were a bit smoky after a day or two.

Room Tip: Any of the luxury rooms 3/4/5/6 - in summer, apparently 6 may be nicer (larger outside area) but the...

We stayed at the Valemont for two nights early in October. The Lodge is absolutely lovely, set in stunning grounds about 10ks outside Underberg. Although our accommodation was lovely, the lodge didn't offer any service apart from breakfast. Rather than drive along the rather long gravel driveway in the dark, we elected to have "takeaway" in our room. The large rooms have a small kitchen area with crockery & cutlery, fridge and microwave. The cat and dogs are very friendly, scratching at the windows to get in at night, and barking most of the night. I think it would be a much better option in season when the Lodge is fully open

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights over a long weekend in September and will definitely be back! We stayed in one of the huge rooms (which are really more like small cottages) on the edge of the forest, with fantastic views, privacy and attention to detail. Although the owner, Lynne, couldn't meet us on our arrival, we were welcomed by Nobuhle who was friendly, efficient and immediately made us feel at home - all of our (perhaps somewhat quirky) requests, such as for a pair of pliers and a screwdriver, were met with a smile, a 'can do / no problem' attitude and an immediate response. Breakfasts were first class and overall service was friendly, efficient and never over-bearing. At R450 per person per night sharing, we felt that the overall experience was excellent value.

Room Tip: The 2 rooms on the edge of the forest are more private and great if you're a birdwatcher!
