“Most enjoyable conference ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2014 via mobile

I just attended a work conference at the resort and I would have to say the service of the staff was very good and well organised. The venue is perfect as in terms of views and things to do. I would recommend this resort for any holiday, conferencing, team building and wedding.

Very hospitable employees at the reception desk. Both self-catering rooms that we had booked were very spacious and neat. The surroundings are spectacular and proudly showing off the drakensberg mountains. I liked the idea that when you want some buzz, the bar is on-site, with table tennis, pool table and darts. Conversely, the lounge area offers space and ambiance for solitude reading - be it a book or the surrounding mountains through the glass doors.

Spending the weekend at Bush man's Nek in Drakensberg. I love the lounge area, always warm and welcoming. The service and accomodation is excellent. My favourite is the tea and scones. A walk to the waterfall on the Lesotho border.

Bushmans Nek is situated in one of the most spectacular mountain settings we have ever had the privilege of experiencing and that after numerous stays in both the Southern and Northern Drakensberg. And it is isolated enough to give one a complete "getaway from it all" sense of freedom. The resort has a variety of accommodation options from studios to three bedroomed self catering apartments. We stayed in a very large corner unit - No. 18 - which had three bedrooms, three bathrooms and a very spacious common area encompassing a living room, dining room and fully self catering kitchen. The main bedroom, dining room and lounge all had double doors leading to two patios which took full advantage of the eye smacking scenery. The unit had recently been refurbished in that it was most attractively painted and all the soft furnishings had been replaced. Large multi coloured cushions, hotel quality curtaining and delightful paintings on the walls added a very luxurious feel to the decor. The kitchen and bathrooms are a little dated however. The kitchenware, although not lavish, is still very acceptable. We spread ourselves voluptuously around the apartment wallowing in the space. The huge double bed had a feather duvet of such thickness and weight that it not only successfully warded off the gripping ice cold temperatures that descended at night, but cocooned us into hedonistic if not sinful late risings. it was bitterly cold as the sun dropped and the one complaint we have to voice about our accommodation was its woeful lack of heating. To survive we invaded the very inviting lounge of the resort which had two magnificent fireplaces to simmer us all into a state of somnambulance. We tried to read or play a board game or two but our desultory attempts nearly always resulted in an inelegant nap. We did explore the mountains during the day which is what I blame our lethargy on. And a kilometre walk to the Lesotho border post rewards one with a diminutive waterfall which splashes onto rocks imprinted with dinosaur footprints. En route, stop at the stone built and century old Trading Post for necessary hiking victuals like a beer and some tipsy tart.
And hike the few metres from your apartment to the large verandah of the resort every morning once you have gathered the courage to remove yourself from under that addictive duvet. You have to reward yourself for your resolve by indulging in the morning tea they tempt you with. A cream scone or decadent muffin alongside a steaming cup of coffee while gazing at a mountain range of such beauty will have you sighing in bliss.
There are numerous activities for your delight and benefit including a swimming pool which competes with the jaw dropping scenery. A spa and restaurant and courteous staff all collude to making you believe in perfection.
Almost. But it's not all paradise. A most dusty and very long almost 30km sand road is the challenge to be overcome to reach Bushmans Nek from Underberg (which has a very well stocked Spar for your self catering needs). Walking excursions or driving it has you covered in a film of pale paste. Our 4x4 tackled it without too much bother but we noted several sedans receiving first aid at the resort by having burst tyres replaced.
Oddly enough, both our cell phone coverage and mobile internet surpassed what we are subject to in Johannesburg. The advertised free wi-fi was non existent.
Dirt road or not and given the opportunity - we will go back. We never got a chance to sample the chocolate brownies at morning tea!

Room Tip: The wooden cottages all have fireplaces and views. They are also the most private accommodation on o...

We stayed at Bush man's Nek over June long weekend. We stayed in the log cabins which are small and outdated but it was still worth the view and amenities. I would recommend staying in the units rather than the log cabins. Love the facilities of this resort worth going to visit.
