Wilderness Beach house

Also known as Annie's Place, The Beach House is conveniently located a stone's throw from the seemingly endless sandy beach and an easy walk from a small local shopping & restaurant centre.
The large front dorms are light and airy thanks to the massive floor to ceiling front windows/door. If its not morning sunshine you're after, the remainder of the dorm has a rather less alfresco feel. The building really takes advantage of its sea facing location with large wooden terraces where you can sit and enjoy the view, listening to the waves thunder in, sip a sundowner whilst watching a stunning sunset, and enjoying the social chatter around a braai.
Feeling rather dorm-ed out, I treated myself to the en suite double with equally terrific views. The hostel is clean, well thought out and invites you to make the most of its stunning setting. Annie is an interesting lady who seem to understand that even backpackers are grateful to find somewhere above expectation.
Take a walk along the railway line, through the first tunnel and you will find The Secret Cave.

Wilderness is a cool place, and this was a very cool place to explore it. The staff were excellent, and were a great source of local knowledge.

Location was great - really well placed to get to the beach or walk the abandoned railway, which goes to town in one direction and to a wonderful and unique cave in the other, which was inhabited by a very nice hermit chap.

Food was good value and tasty, too!

Great location with views all along the coastline, not to far from the village centre either. This place has a great vibe and brilliant areas to hang out. The bar is always lively as the locals come and join in with the drinking. Very good food is available, especially the pizza. Service is good but sometimes hard to find.

Internet is poorly serviced considering there is a charge. The dorms are clean apart from the fact a dog lives in one which clearly has fleas.

Right on the beach with amazing views of the coast, I would have said this was more like a B&B than a backpackers, my boyfriend and I went for a double room very clean and comfy. Definitely one of the best backpackers I have ever stayed in. The location is not too far from the centre and well worth the distance out of town for the sea views and quiet.

this was not my first visit to BHB, but surely the best. thanks to jono who took us walking along the rail to vic bay for a surf and the fire he build us to prepare our dinner.
thanks to lieze who was such a great sport and so friendly. breathtaking views.
we were camping and three tents battled it out for the only stretch of grass, we decided to extend our stay and moved to the dorms. the white bedding made me sooo happy.
thank you BHB, we will be back!

We stayed here in January 2013. Great location, slightly elevated from the beach but only a 2 minute walk to the waves. We had a double room inside the main house which for the money we paid, we could not fault. Annie (who we dealt with) was fantastic, she was very helpful and honest with places to go and things to do. We really enjoyed our stay here and loved the beautiful beach. The water was warm and clear, unlike other reviews I never experienced any currents. The Beach House would be ideal to book out for large groups.
Thanks Annie, loved it!
