My husband, my two teenage sons and I spent a fabulous week at Limberlost in December last year. We prefer self catering holidays so we were thrilled to find that the apartment had a lovely, well equipped kitchen and a gorgeous bathroom with a huge window overlooking a gorgeous natural enchanted garden. Our hosts Anja and Stefano were incredibly hospitable and could not do enough for us. The German Italian heritage was evident in the delicious organic tomatoes, zucchini and basil that they grow in their garden and which we found in a basket at our door when we returned from the beach. We were able to enjoy evening braais outside in the lovely garden and enjoy sundownders swinging in the hammock. The rooms were very comfortable, with TV and DVD player and i even found some of my favorite movies in their DVD collection! We felt completely at home at Limberlost.

We were in Limberlost in May this year. We are two adults and it was magnificent. Limberlost is a beautiful guesthouse with a big grassland in front of the house and a thatched roof. When you stay in Limberlost you feel automatically warm, we can't discribe it. The stuff (married couple and three dogs) is also wonderful, we felt like we stayed at home but in another country. :)
When we wanted to go out, we had a lot of possibilities to experience something. We saw the ostrichs in Oudtshoorn and the saturday market in Sedgefield. On Sunday is a market in Wilderness as well. It was also nice to enter the market. One day we visited Knysna and it was beautiful and another day we went to the wonderful beach in Wilderness.
Do you prefer to stay warm and homely? This guesthouse is an absolute must, when you want to visit South Africa and Wilderness.

My fiancee and I were traveling on the Garden Route and we just started calling around guesthouses listed in the Garden Route travel book. We booked with Limberlost because it was cheap (R160 per person a night) and it seemed like a nice place from the picture.

How misled we were! We temporarily thought this is a hidden gem but eventually found out that you get what you pay. It seemed like a very nice with a big room with high roof and a big bathroom. When we looked around to see if there was a heater or a thermostat, we realized there isn't one and we are getting what we paid for. The roof is thatched so it does not keep out cold spring air so well (the temperature was hovering low teens, if not single digit in Celcius). Maybe it was the thatched roof but the moldy smell in the room was unbearable. There were 2 comforters on the bed but it was still too cold. And who knows when they last washed the comforters since there was no folded sheet to "shield" you from touching the comforter.

In the end, it was a cheap stay but I was glad to be out of there after one night. Oh yeah, it's cash only.

Dear traveler, well, I am sorry, you didn`t have the time of your life, but
If you would have liked a more comfortable stay, why didn't you take
one of our rather upmarket-units for just 3 US-Dollar more?
instead of asking for the cheapest we got? If it was so cold at night ( 15 degrees ) why did you not use the electrical blankets?
If the scent of thatch is disgusting to you, why did you not go for a room with the usual ceilings? Besides, it is not very likely, that a room with a height of 7.5 m is badly aired.
Talking of cleanliness : We got loads of guest comments which indicate
how they enjoyed the tidyness of the place.
We do not need a protection shield in our guest beds, because the linnen is completely changed each time the visitors leave.
Finally, if your stay was as terrible as you described, why did you not point out a single complaint to us at any time, we would have adviced you to a more suitable accommodation with the greatest of pleasure.
However, I hope you enjoyed your time in South-Africa and found establishments, which were tailor-made to your needs.
It is simply not possible to serve everybody`s taste and YES we are a bit different, some call it special.
