“Once Again...Excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2012

I had the pleasure of visiting the Hotel after a wonderful experience last year. I must truly say, the Manager Mr Zander and staff, well done....The kids enjoyed themselves at the pool, the atmosphere was great, breakfast superb and the staff...very, very friendly and helpful..I will always go back.

This hotel is o good option for a stop during the garden route trip. Breakfast was a mess, thats true... But after that, the swimming pool and other areas were empty and we enjoyed it almost by ourselves. There is no beach service, chairs or umbrellas. Overall, don't expect too much, but you will have a nice room, clean towels and sheets.

I stayed here in July 2011 and was very sad to see how African Sky Hotels have let this hotel go. I still remeber this hotel in its hayday in the early 90s when it was a Holiday Inn, but now it should be avoided. Many of the rooms are simply boarded up and the building is poorly maintained.

But as the title says, help is on the way as from April this year, African Sky Hotels' lease is up and the hotel is due for an upgrade and new management will take over. Lets see how this will turn out. African Sky also managed the former Holiday Inn in Oudtshoorn, but they too have left and the hotel have had a face lift.

Wilderness Beach Hotel is situated at a wonderful beach where you can do long walks. The hotel (formerly Holiday Inn Wilderness) has big rooms with 2 queen size beds, ground floor rooms are opening to the lawns. furthermore they have aircondition. The hotel has a nice bar, a restaurant and a cosy terrace. It offers good quality for the price. We stayed there on our garden route tour.

i tried looking to the good in this hotel, unfortunately i could not find it.
i initially booked a 3 night stay at this hotel via booking.com. The hotel could not fulfil this booking and infact reduced my stay to 2 nights.(thank goodness)
i was then promised a sea facing room and once again they couldnt fulfil a promise made by them.
when i got to the hotel i found the reception staff to be most unpleasant and not very accomodating.
as for the hotel itself this is a very old hotel and in dire need of a refurbishment from the drab entrance to the tired and old looking bedrooms.
the beds were of extremely poor quality and the bathrooms were old .
infact i thought i stepped into a time warp and felt i was going back in time (in a negative way ) to the 60's
if i thought that my woes were over i was even more horrified at breakfast, total and absolute chaos. the staff gave the impression that they just wished the place was empty.
they walked around without attending to the needs of the guests , with total disinterest.
it is my opinion that this hotel perhaps needs new life and new blood and could well do with a much needed refurbishment.
avoid the hotel and rather stay next door at "The Views "

Room Tip: avoid the hotel or get it in writing that they will give you a sea facing room

... that's about it. The hotel needs an urgent refurbishment and compared to the hotel next door the prices/value is outrageous! The room didn't smell nice, the bathroom had cracked tiles, people at reception had no clue, internet access (for which you pay a relatively high price to SA standards) is absolutely unreliable and was unavailable most of the time.
We found that the lift wasn't working most of the time, despite my partner being less able due to surgery, the staff couldn't care less! And the safety door that must remain closed for security reasons is either wide opened or securely locked, which didn't make us feel very safe.

I usually don't write very bad comments here on TA, but as we'd found this through TA and saw the excellent comments, I thought that somebody should write the truth about this dump.

Wilderness can not be described in any other way than...beautiful. We are from Cape Town and wanted a short family break. So we decided to visit Wilderness Beach Hotel. Our room had a beautiful view of the ocean. The kids enjoyed the pool and beach. The Breakfast was a very good full English spread. There is also a separate restaurant "Patric’s" which had a nice Irish Pub feel.
All in all... a great family break!
