“"Simply The Best"”
Reviewed 27 January 2013

I did my annual holiday visit to The Beach Hotel, and must add that I was welcomed back by the friendly staff, William, and Mr Louw at the Front Desk, Amazing people. The General Manager, Mr Zander was also very friendly, and made time out of his busy schedule to welcome me, also Mr Zander is very helpful, and could assist with anything I needed to make my stay as memorable as possible.A real Gem to The Pearl of Wilderness.
I also met the Chef, Eric, who also added value to my stay.
Room attendants and Service was excellent. The Food was Great, Tidyness i will give a high Five, and Service, outstanding.
Well Done eveyrone!!!!
I will go visit again.

went there 17 Dec 2012 to 24 Dec. The hotel is situated perfectly, but they were busy renovatingthe place why in December at their busiest time of the year i really dont know maybe just bad planning. my room was on the ground floor right by the green pool which three days later they only started to try and get blue...i know it is sea water in the pool but im sure you can get it blueish. house keeping sucks as by 12 am to 2 pm your room is still not made up untill you throw your toys out hte cot and then they will come and do house keeping.Breakfast is good and there is everything you need but when scramled eggs are finished dont ask for more you get a reply "FINISHED" all in all the hotel is fine but hopefully when they have finished revamping all will work and be ok.

Room Tip: make sure you ask for any room which the aircon works. mine sounded like a Harvard

Stunning view but the Hotel itself is very old with poor service. The breakfast in the morning is nothing special and rooms are very basic. We only stayed here for one night which was not too bad but will not stay there again.

We paid a huge amount of money to stay in this hotel, we were charged R850 a night. and we stayed there for 6 nights. So let me share my experience with you.

our 1st room. was dirty, cigarettes butts on the balcony, floor dirty, and a clear sign that this room was not cleaned before we arrived,
So my wife went to reception and asked for our room to be cleaned.
we then later discovered that there are no drawers, so again we went to reception.

The T.V in the room was of such bad quality that you cannot see anything on the screen, the t.v guide is for DSTV, but we could only get TV1.TV2.TV3 the free channels.

We went to bed later that night, half way thought the night we could not take this bed anymore, my wife had several bite marks of bugs. the other bed in the room, Just as bad.

The next morning i went to reception to ask for my money back, Because i am going to check into another hotel even if it cost me twice as much.

The manager then told us that they have ordered new beds (21 dec) and they should arrive today, and we will then be moved to one of the rooms that have a new bed. We were moved to a room on the ground floor.

let me tell you, the pictures of the resort is not even close to the real thing.
the pool, on their website it is blue, in real life it is green, so green that you cannot see the bottom.

The grass around the pool area has not seen maintenance for at least 6 months. The rest of the gardens is in the very same bad state.

the tennis court net is being held up by a stick, and weed (knee high) growing around the edges.

The tranquility area, is a patch of sand.
The chairs around the pool area does not have the covers as indicated on their website.
The photo on the website is at least years old

general hygiene from this hotel is very bad.
People were complaining about the breakfast plates stinking. And pieces of food still stuck on the plate, Nobody check if the plates are clean.

You would have expected the staff to know how to prepare a table, knife/fork/spoon/cup/place-mat/sugar/salt... the basics but instead we had to ask for tea spoons and sugar every day, the tables were cleaned with the place-mats, the food-plates were obviously hand washed because you can almost see what the previous person had.

The hotel run out of ice on a daily basis. and the bar did not want to give us ice, because they only had enough ice for them.

People were leaving the hotel in large numbers, in the early hours of the morning, because of the quality of this hotel. I have spoken to many people there, and not 1 person could tell me that they are happy with what they got.

When i spoke to the manager, this is what he said. The owners of the hotel does not want to spend money on the Hotel. That proved my point that no maintenance done in the last 10 years to this place. I was very shocked that he ordered new beds just before the close for holidays.

I wanted to call the owners, and was told that they are the same bunch of people that run the bus company (roadlink) and was told that they do not speak to customers.

The name has now been changed to "the Pearl" it should have been "the Rotten Pearl"

-- To management -- when you renovate a hotel you do it in your quiet season, not is your busy season, when you paint your hotel you paint in your quiet season NOT IN YOUR BUSY SEASON. The entire lobby and breakfast area smelled like paint.

The manager of the hotel should also be fired, He does not know the basics form running a hotel. Him and his family were seated across from us when we had breakfast, they run out of breakfast punch, so he got some from the shop across the road. the orange juice came out of the kitchen and when his children wanted to dink from it, he said to them "Dont drink that juice" so i was left wondering what was in that juice.....

I want to write a letter to the hospitality board as ask them how can a 3 star hotel provide such bad quality, and also propose that this hotel be changed to a 2 star.

Even the locals call this place the "rotten hotel".

NEVER AGAIN, NEVER !!!

even after their renovations their quality will still stay bad. they can change whatever they want, if management does not get their act together this hotel will stay in bad shape.

Lastly and very important--- the spa is run by a separate company their spa is worth it and very clean , i will defiantly recommend them.

Room Tip: choose another hotel to get a clean room

We stayed there for two nights as most other places in Wilderness were fully booked. The hotel was "refurbishing", wich meant workers painting the roof without any safety features in 30 degrees heat.

Inside it was dirty and run down, the pool was not clean. Breakfast was ok, the rooms was not that clean but ok, but not for the price we paid. Wifi was only avaliable for quite a cost in the lobby, and the receptionists did not think this was strange.

To conclude, with so many other alternatives in Wilderness, why stay at a dirty, run down, un-personal hotel from 1970?

i will never either refer this hotel to anyone! one thing to be in the process of refurbishment but it could at least have been kept clean. No regard for safety whilst refurbishing! Terrible mouldly smell in the bedroom. Slept with the patio door open entire night! Will never go back.

This is by far the dirtiest hotel I have stayed in. It appears that the carpets have not been washed since it opened. The linen gives off a terrible odor. The restaurant plates appear to be washed haphazardly as there is often remains of food on the plates. The hotel has an avid shortage of towels, on a daily basis we had to request towels. They do not know what room is allocated, we were awoken in the middle of the night as security did not know our room is occupied. If I did not receive such a good deal for this accommodation, I would have checked out on day 1. Its a real pity as the location is excellent, lets just hope that after the renovations, the hotel will get better.
