We stayed there (4-8 July 2014) 4 nights of the worst accommodation I have been in. We were 2 adults and 2 kids. the rooms had mould on the walls, especially around the windows. there was no heating facilities available, and we had to sit in jackets and caps in the room. I could not bath my kids since it was freezing in there they would have come down with pneumonia probably and they both had colds. It would have been warmer to camp in a tent and have a fire going outside!!
As for the breakfast, the food was mediocre - I have had better in student residences. I have made a note in writing of my complaints at the hotel when we left there. I guess i should have been suspicious when we tried to find pictures of Fairy Knowe before we bought the voucher and the website was always under construction, with just one picture of the area on it.
I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Room Tip: make sure there are up to date pictures of the rooms

This was our second stay at the Fairy Knowe. Once again helpful staff, comfortable room and good menu.
We spent two nights and ate at the hotel on both. the food was excellent although the dining room a bit dated. Nevertheless the live music from a very accomplished piano on the Friday evening was great.
We look forward to our next stay.

If you are looking for five star accommodation, stop reading and look for another place! This Hotel is charming, old worldly and is situated in one of the most beautiful locations in the world. We fell in love the first time we went there and keep going back. The rooms are dated (don't care about that!) the lounge, dinning room and bar area are dated (care even less about that!) what brings us back is the friendly staff, the good food and the location.

Room Tip: River facing rooms in the old building has private balconies

Dear valued guest,

Its gives us such joy to know that you've had an amazing stay with us! And we must agree, the Wilderness and Fairy Knowe location is simply divine - one cannot help but to fall in love with its beauty and splendour! It is in essence a magical place...

We are excited to announce that soon these 'dated' areas in the hotel would have undergone a big transformation - honouring the alluring Old world charm it has to offer.

Thank you for taking the time to write a very encouraging and heartfelt review and complimenting us on our staff and good food. We hope to receive you again this side soon.

Until then, best regards,
The Fairy Knowe team.

The hotel is currently being renovated and the rooms are 'tired' however, the location is stunning, right on the lagoon and close to the village of wilderness and a great base for surrounding activities. Food was included in our package, the breakfast buffet had a great selection and a cooked breakfast is available. Evening meals offered a wide choice and the food was homely, tasty and generous portions, bar drinks were inexpensive.

Dear Patrick,

Thank you for your kind words - we are delighted that you have had a superb stay!
The bird life is truly spectacular and we have not only witnessed 8 - 10 Knysna Loeries flying about daily, but also a majestic Eagle that visits here every now and again. In the meantime Kingfishers never fail to entertain spectators down by the riverside... :) A bird lover's PARADISE!
The old world charm of the hotel is alluring indeed.
We hope to welcome you again here soon. Safe travels!

Warm regards,
The Fairy Knowe Team

Shower Water was not hot enough & rooms were cold with no heaters.

Overall enjoyed the stay especially the activities available.

The food at the restaurant was also very good, except for the limited selection.

Dear Simone,

We would like to apologise for your unpleasant experience at the hotel. We are in the process of revamping and upgrading the bedrooms - we are looking into solar heating solutions which is environmentally friendly.
We are pleased to know that you enjoyed the meals and the fun activities available on our premises. We welcome you to come visit the Fairy Knowe again once the changes have been completed. Thanks for your contribution.

Best regards,
The Fairy Knowe Team

I was very disappointed with the hotel. The place is a run-down dump. It urgently needs a major revamp and decent furniture. I informed the people at the front desk about us being awoken by the noisy staff arriving at 6 am. At around 8 am they were also having a loud conversation in the corridor near my room. If the owners are unable to create quiet surroundings for their guests, they fail to conform to the first and foremost requirement for a hotel!!! It took the staff nearly three hours to find me ONE extra blanket on a very chilly night. My bed/mattress also smelt of URINE!!! The room must be a hell-hole in summer without aircon. The hotel is totally overpriced and should at most operate as a backpackers lodge at backpackers rates. It deserves one star for the acceptable breakfast, fireplace in the bar area, friendly people at the front desk and Wi-Fi in the lounge. I will not be back and will most definitely not recommend the place to anyone.
