“Wonderful hospitality”
Reviewed 14 November 2011

It was really wonderful staying at this beautiful guesthouse. Gerald and JD let us feel at home and we could just relax and enjoy their hospitality. Breakfast was well planned and delicious. They booked our dinner reservation at one of the restaurants which we really appreciated. Thank you Gerald and JD for a wonderful stay. Best wishes. Anso and Rita

We were delighted with our stopover in Wilderness. The co-owner, Gerald, was really helpful and informative - the guest house was immaculately furnished and in a wonderful location overlooking the lagoon. Room was beautiful with a four-poster bed and it was an easy walk into the small town of Wilderness to eat in the evening. All this within a stone's throw of the main Garden Route motorway.

Recently made a return visit to Wilderness Manor. Our hosts JD and Gerald run a really tight ship, everything was just perfect. We wanted for nothing. Breakfast was truly amongst the best we’ve had anywhere. The rooms are very spacious, and beautifully furnished and spotless. We had pre diner drinks each evening in the guest’s first floor sitting room, overlooking the beautiful lagoon. Wilderness itself is the perfect base for visiting the garden route. We had day trips to Knysna, Plett, Natures Valley and Storms River. The local restaurants are great especially “The Girls” it was so good we ate their twice! We absolutely loved our stay here and cannot recommend it highly enough.

A big thank you to Gerald and JD for once again giving us a wonderful stay at Wilderness Manor. On this, being our third visit we took 2 of our closest friends with us and we all had a memorable stay. Such good hosts as always, made us feel very special. Four lovely days enjoying this area of the garden route, always starting with their memorable breakfasts and ending in one of the fine restaurants in the village. Do try "The Girls" just a 10 minute walk away. Best Fillet Steak and KingKlip fish you've probably tasted, but get Gerald to make a booking for you. The place gets very busy.

Room Tip: Try to get a balcony room overlooking the lagoon, may not be a suite but it's the next best thin...

Whist on our honeymoon my Wife Melanie and I arrived at Widerness after a four hour drive and greeted by two of the most pleasant, warm and welcoming hosts we could have wished for. Gerald and J.D could not have done more for us. We were informed of all attractions, walks, expected journey times and preferred routes etc within the area, not to mention recommendations of local restaurants, the cuisines on offer and their locations and offers to make reservations for us. This is just the hosts. The guest house itself is beautifully located overlooking the lagoon, the garden is meticulously kept in order as is the guest house, which is beautifully decorated, ornaments and curios from around the world adorn the lounge and billiard room, and extensive range of books and high class magazines are there for your perusal. Our suite was fantastic, all requirements catered for down to fleece lined hot water bottles if required. Complimentary Champagne on ice was gratefully received, tastefully decorated, huge bathroom, with bath, shower and double basins. These guys, honestly, bend over backwards to do all they can to ensure that your stay is the best it could possibly be. Their breakfasts were first class, everything you could posssibly imagine was on offer, beautifully cooked to perfection personally for you. Fantastic attention to detail in every area. Simply a must guest house to visit if you are in the area.

Thank you Paul and Melanie for your wonderful review. It is much appreciated and we are just too happy that you enjoyed your stay with us. We try to be as helpful as possible and treat all our guests as if they are the only guests in the guest house. Having flown with South African Airways as cabin crew, service is of utmost importance to us. We look forward to when you return to South Africa one day and to Wilderness Manor.

What a lovely guesthouse. Unfortunately we were only able to stay here for 1 night en route to the Garden Route. Gerald and JD welcomed us with a drink as soon as we arrived and they explained all the activities in Wilderness.

We were staying on New Years Eve and Gerald and JD provided a bottle of champagne for every guest room. A bunch of us gathered in the common room to toast to the new year on the balcony at midnight.

Everything was thought of and provided for including beach bags that the guests could borrow.

The room itself was well decorated although the bathroom was a little small. From what I understand we had the smallest room in the guesthouse though. Next time we come back to South Africa we will be back in a heartbeat.

I also highly recommend anyone staying in the area to make a reservation at Serendipity for dinner down the road. It was a great experience and just a short walk down the road.

Thank you for your positive review.
We make everybody feel welcome from the moment they enter Wilderness Manor and try to do those little extras like sparkling wine for the guests at Christmas & New Year, and other special occasions.
We look forward to welcoming you back next time you are travelling along the Garden Route.

My Wife & I stayed here on our Honeymoon may 2009 and had an excellent time, from the moment we arrived JD (one of the owners) greeted us after our long drive and invited us in to sit and have a drink, we felt completely at home.

The guest house is flawless in every aspect and the owners did everything in there power to enhance our visit to south africa.

JD made a special booking in a restaurant 100 metres up the road, Serendipity ! 5 star plus !!! one of the best restaurant's we have had the pleasure of dining at.

Regards
