This was the outstanding place to stay in our two week trip to South Africa, but alas it was only for one night. Words cannot describe how welcoming JD and Gerald were. Their local knowledge is superb and we followed all their advice on places to go to on our next day's journey (we were a party of four driving along the Garden Route to Shamwari Game Reserve east of Port Elisabeth). Consequently we saw views to die for and experienced parts of South Africa that we would have missed if it hadn't been for the boys' advice. Superb hosts, an absolutely stunning location, amazingly beautiful house, rooms to die for, superb breakfast, comfortable bed - what more could anyone ask? We loved it here. Recommended wholeheartedly and will be on our next stop off point when we visit South Africa again - which we will!! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: We had two rooms facing the lagoon - one had a balcony and separate sitting area, the other a huge p...

My boyfriend and I stayed for just one night at Wilderness Manor, and it was far too short. The house is set back from the road and has lovely tranquil views from the balconies across the lagoon, perfect for sundowners. Our room was extremely tastefully decorated, immaculate and had a beautiful kingsize bed, lounge area, huge bathroom with roll top bath and his and hers sinks and tea and coffee facilities plus a fridge and mini bar. It's very old africa and colonial in style. We slept so well, the sheets were divine, are awoke to the sounds of birds and the dappled sunlight through the shutters. Very special and very "wilderness".
What is most special about this truly lovely place are Gerald and JD the owners and hosts. They are so professional and welcoming….. Between them they have over 40 years of experience in the hospitality industry and it really shows. Nothing was too much trouble and absolutely every need was anticipated taken care of or catered to. Their service was of the standard you would expect in a five star hotel…. The love what they do, love taking care of their guests are attentive and genuine and it really shows. We were sat next to possibly the most picky guest ever at breakfast specifying exactly how many egg yolks to whites ratio for his scramble and the exact consistency, enough to make any waiter at a Michelin starred restaurant reach for the nearest knife and Gerald didn't bat an eye lid, simply sending an equally patient JD who was cheffing out of the kitchen to clarify his bizarre and demanding order….. They're true pros. The breakfast was also wonderful. JD's bircher Museli is not to be missed. A really really great place we would definitely recommend to all of our friends.

Dad and I had an amazing stay at the guest house. Gerald and JD were warm & welcoming and their attention to detail exceptional. They were extremely kind and ensured each day we were organised and as we had no car assisted us with transport on a couple of occasions. The decor was smart and spotless and I couldn't keep up with the towel changes! The breakfast was fabulous with a great choice. All round a first class experience.

If you are planning to stay in Wilderness, then this is the place to stay. J.D. and Gerald are very attentive and helpful hosts. The rooms are 5 star as is the breakfasts. The view across straight onto the lagoon is so peaceful and a short walk and you are in Wilderness itself. Please stay if you get the chance.

Room Tip: Ask for the ones looking across to the lagoon, at the front of the house.

Wilderness Manor may be a four star guest house, but it certainly offers five star service by friendly hosts Gerald and JD who have eyes for detail and hearts of gold. The best room service ever! It's like a 'neat fairy' is secretly on duty. Thank you Gerald and JD for a great experience we will continue sharing with others and we'll definitely return to your lovely guest house!

Wilderness Manor is tastefully decorated and has nice, big rooms. Ours was without balcony and had no air condition. This wasn't a problem as it was rainy and not too hot. It's the little things that make a difference between 4 and 5 stars: for instance the shower was a bit of a drizzle with hot/cold not easy to adjust (and maintain). Internet is complimentary, but does not work in the room. Mosquito nets would have been good. No pool, but the lagoon in front of the house.
Without any doubt all the rest was clearly 5*! The breakfast with the wonderful homemade fruit salad and Knysna Loerie-/sunbirds-watching - wonderful. And of course the outstanding service the Gerald and JD provide with passion and know-how. Very recommendable!

My husband and I together with friends stayed at the Wilderness Manor for two nights. Our warm and hospitable hosts, Gerald and JD, went out of their way to make our stay most memorable. The guest house is impeccable with beautiful views. Gerald and JD's attention to detail is evident in the personal decor touches and magnificent service that we received. Our two luxury rooms on the top floor were extremely comfortable, very well appointed and tastefully decorated. The breakfasts were excellent. Gerald had made dinner reservations at Serendipity on the first night and The Girls on the second night that we thoroughly enjoyed. We look forward to visiting the area again - The Wilderness Manor being our first choice for accommodation.

Room Tip: The luxury rooms are very spacious and have beautiful views.
