In very few guest houses during our recent tour have been so warmly received. The hosts are down-to-earth and easy going, offering everyone a glass of wine before they are taken to their rooms.

The rooms are all sea facing, with spectacular views of the ocean. We even got to see a school of dolphins on two occasions. There is a well-maintained wooden staircase the leads to the beach, and other properties.

The beach is pristine, rather unpopulated, but not a classic swim beach. One can walk for great stretches and not encounter many people. When you do go swimming, be careful of the currents.

Breakfast is a treat with many options that changes every day, ranging from porridge with whiskey to gorgeous omelets. For our group the host compiled a little newsletter of news from home and placed it on the tables. Each day the menu has some funny quotations and comments that lead to lively discussions.

From the guest house it is easy to reach the Nature Park, dont miss out on the kayaking to the waterfall.

If you don't like humidity, then this is not for you. The guest house is situated on the beach. Naturally there will be a lot of humidity. But the hosts over to tumble dry all wet towels and clothes every day.

Room Tip: All the rooms are sea-facing, but one room (the very last one) is set a bit back in the garden.

A wonderful place to stay. The ocean views from our room were superb and the rooms were wonderfully comfortable. Tea and coffee making facilities were included. There's a microwave for general use and on request Gerhard set up the BBQ outside our room and provided plates, cutlery and all necessities. Gerhard and Annetjie were most attentive hosts and made us feel very special. Gourmet breakfasts, beautifully presented, were a speciality, with a daily printed menu that included the weather and great quotes to start the day with a smile. They were very sensitive and attentive to our specific dietary needs. Gerhard gets A+++ for every recommendation he gave us, whether places to eat or places to visit. We felt so welcomed there that we dropped in on our way back to George airport and were greeted with a huge hug and most welcome cups of tea and coffee to fortify us for the next lot of travel. An outstanding place to stay.

Room Tip: You can hear the surf but it's right next to the sea so that's to be expected.

We stayed for 3 nights and wish we had booked for longer. Gerhard and Annetjie could not have done more to make us feel welcome. Nothing was too much trouble and everything revolved around our enjoyment. The view over the beach is stunning, the rooms are first-rate and the breakfasts were perfect. Surf noise is a little intrusive, but what do you expect when sleeping over the beach? Gerhard provided nice touches like weather forecasts for each day and "this day in history" notes each day. When he discovered we were British he produced a British newspaper for us. Following his insightful reviews of local restaurants we enjoyed some fantastic meals which enhanced this truly memorable visit.

The location of Mes Amis is a bit secluded which has of course its advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages: Beautiful view over the ocean, except for the booming waves, there is no noise audible. There is a stair close by to get to the sandy beach in just a couple of minutes. The room was really nice and it had a huge and very comfortable bed.

Disadvantages: The patios are only separated by a plant, so you can see and hear what your neighbor is doing. There is no restaurant close by. If you want to eat something, you have to take the car to get to the next town and even there the selection is pretty narrow. The staff is slow and - at breakfast - not courteous or friendly. The breakfast selection is small too.

I am sorry that our staff were less than their usual friendly self at breakfast - thanks for the feedback on that. It affords us an opportunity to improve the standard of service.
Just to place the "you have to take the car to get to the next town" in perspective: the town of Wilderness is 2Km from Mes Amis.

This is probably the closest you can come to heaven!!! The view is absolutely fantastic!!! The room is gorgeous!! Own coffee machine in the room was great!! The breakfasts was outstanding and unique. Gerhard and Annetjie are the absolute perfect hosts and they make absolutely sure to attend to each guest at their breakfast table every morning. They have a leaflet for each day that contains information regarding the weather for the rest of the week as well as some interesting facts about happenings on the specific date in history. We also had coffee brought to our room!! That was a REAL treat!! The coffee is fabulous!! We will definitely visit again!! This B&B is VERY VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

My partner Paul and I travel rather a lot and have stayed in some good places, but Mes Amis takes the cake....we were there 23 and 24 September 2011. How lovely to be greeted by such happy friendly people and the rooms were spacious, clean and modern and fresh. The bed was like a big fluffy cloud that you could just float away on all the while watching the ocean roll back and forth. The breakfast was fabulous - refreshing in that it was not bacon, eggs and sausage everyday...and the Scotsman, oats, cream, honey and whiskey was oh so delicious. The views well totally awsome - Perfect end to a perfect holiday on the Garden Route.
What a place Gerhardt and Annetjie have - we will see you again in our travels. Thank you so much guys.

Room Tip: We had room 6 - quiet and unbelievable view. Colours blue and white. there are red and white and b...

Great accommodations with an amazing view. The hosts Gerhard and Annetjie paid special attention to even the smallest details. It is tastefully decorated and provides the most delicous homemade breakfast each morning. The beds were extremely comfortable and provided a very restful night sleep. A definite recommendation for anyone looking for a quaint Bed and Breakfast.
