“A cure for anything!”
Reviewed 24 January 2009

The initial drive to Interlaken disguises what an amazing (and positive!) shock to the system the fantastic views over the lake and surrounding landscape has on it's guests! This, combined with the warm welcome and friendliness of the hosts, Kevin and Elsie, makes this a great place to stay if you are heading through Wilderness, and want somewhere for a couple of nights or even a week.
We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed not only the views, the hospitality and the relaxed breakfasts on the terrance, but also great walking in the surrounding area, plus the beach that went on for miles!
Staying at New Year meant that we didn't get the opportunity to test some of the better resturants in the area, and it was probably quieter than we normally have, but this was more than made up for by waking on New Year's day to the vista from our balcony!
Clean, welcoming, friendly - we would totally recommend this guest house on many fronts, and apart from having to drive to places (which is the same most places in SA it seems), there is nothing to disappoint.
A really good option and somewhere we would re-visit in a heartbeat!

We stayed at the Interlaken guest house on the Garden Route for three nights in December 2008 as part of a trip between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. It is a great place to stay, a little out of Wilderness which itself is an attractive little town. Kevin and Elsie Cook made us very welcome, the views from the room over the inland lagoon were superb, the breakfasts excellent and we would recommend the Interlaken to anyone passing this way on the Garden Route.

A truly perfect location to relax and enjoy fantastic views over the lagoon through the wall to ceiling windows. The owners couldn't have been more friendly and helpful; it was without a doubt our favourite B&B during our trip. The breakfast was simply delicious with freshly cut fruit and healthy cereal options as well as the ostrich in the cooked breakfast. The location is ideal for seeing the surrounding areas of Wilderness.
The room couldn't have been better - so spacious. On the whole, just the perfect place.

We were welcomed by our marvelous hosts (Elsie and Kevin Cook) via e-mail when we first made our reservations. They provided us with good information about S. Africa and the area we were visiting on the Garden Coast. We had excellent accommodations with an incredible view, hearty and tasty breakfasts and the ability to talk with Elsie and Kevin as if they were long time friends. We were able to easily drive to nearby towns, wildlife farms and hike in incredible nature preseves, while enjoying the quiet comfort and privacy of the "honeymoon suite" at Interlaken.

We stopped off at Interlaken for two days exploration of Wilderness before our safari at Kariega and the search for the Big Five. And we did see "up close and personal" the lions and the elephants, the Cape Buffalo and the White Rhino; and we heard the leopard. For sheer terror it’s hard to decide between having to change a wheel on the edge of the last steep zigzag up the Swartberg Pass and being the meat in a sandwich between two monumental rhinos neither of whom was prepared to blink. But if it's tranquility you’re looking for consider this one; sitting on the balcony of your spacious room at Interlaken, a mug of hot tea, sun rising over the Duiwe river, a cacophony of frogs competing with the dawn chorus of a million birds in the Island Lake and the Serpentine River, planning today’s walk up to the waterfall at the end of the Giant Kingfisher Trail. And if it's understanding South Africa you’re seeking, turn over in your mind the lively discussion with their articulate and passionate friends over dinner in Cook's kitchen, trying to piece together the complex elements of this most diverse of nations. Others have correctly identified the spacious rooms with a view, the generous portions and I entirely agree. But what sets Interlaken apart for me (and my Trip Advisor reviews are as rare as hens' teeth) is the way Kevin and Elsie - and their friends - with great wit and charm presented South Africa as a warm optimistic and exciting country and not merely a tourist destination.

Ah, what a place! The owners are a lovely, friendly and very welcoming couple who made us feel very comfortable, while the view of the lake is, simply, breathtaking. Reasons why we regretted having booked for only one day. If you can, stay longer, it's really worth it. Have a pair of binoculars with you and take in the stunning wildlife on the lake, the spectacular sunsets and sunrises - or sip your wine while loosing yourself in the calm and sweet air of the place. To top it all, Kevin is an excellent chef who will prepare your eggs to order while Elsie will delight you with her enthusiasm and stories. Ah, what a place. Will definitively be back, next time we're in SA. Ciao from Rome, Emma & Mark (the Bennetts).

We spent two nights in this lovely guest house in a beautiful part of South Africa on the Garden Route. The view from the room was fantastic with a view of the Lake and the mountains accessed from the sun deck. The room was spacious and very comfortable and included cooking facilities. The owners were very friendly, helpful and passionate about their guest house. If you are lucky enough to be there on a Sunday morning they take you to a market for the locals were you can get a nice breakfast and buy gifts etc. A good breakfast is included and is served in the main kitchen where you have an opportunity to sit round the table with fellow guests. You will need a car to access the guest house and there are no shops / restuarants within walking distance. However, that is the case with most properties as Wilderness is very spread out town. Wilderness and the Interlaken guest house were big highlights of our trip to S.A.
