“Remembered with a Smile”
Reviewed 19 August 2011

Kingfisher Country House offered space to both contemplatively relax in comfort, and to be gently captivated by nature's nearness. Our hosts, Sue and Phil, exhibited kindness beyond measure, tuning into our need to take it easy. They helped us find just the right sight-seeing for our familyl. We will always remember our time at Kingfisher with a smile.

The house and garden offers a perfect retreat and a lovely place to unwind. Sue and Phil are so welcoming, the bedrooms comfortable, the breakfasts great. The bird life a delight. Our hosts have books and maps and advice places to visit. A perfect haven to return to.

The location was perfect in beautiful environment, at walking distance to a great trail through the wilderness leading to a waterfall, close to the village for a nice dinner
The house and the rooms was wonderful, a bit Laura Ashley style.
The breakfast was eeexxxccceeelllleeeenttt, everything you can imagine was there, including home made quiche cake and Muffins (really terrific!!). Sue feeds the birds every morning from the terrace, the most exotic birds can be seen from 1 meter distance, they even eat cheese out of your hand!

We have really never experienced greater hospitality then Sue and her husband (my own mother could not have done it better;o). She could even advise us for all the rest of our trip throughout South Africa (and they were all stunning good advise!!).
Sue's bed and breakfast was also very affordable, especially compared to the other places that we visited we got full value for money!

Room Tip: the last front room is beautful incl lovely view

The Kingfisher Country House is certainly an “Out of Africa” experience, situated on the edge of the Wilderness national Park which is rich in bird life and fauna.

I was delighted to have chosen the KINGFISHER COUNTRY HOUSE to spend 7 days with an American Doctor writing a Medical book. We needed to have a peaceful and tranquil spot to complete the book, and the Kingfisher certainly offered us a paradise in the Wilderness.

The Hosts, Phil and Sue Millard, do an excellent job of making their guests feel very welcome, in fact we were totally pampered.

This beautiful home is nestled amongst a delightful garden that is filled with birds. A hearty and substantial breakfast is served on the charming terrace, and each morning the breakfasts are never quite the same. Sue bakes the most delicious muffins, and each morning there was a different flavor to temp us.

The Kingfisher Country house is a bird watchers paradise….The large variety of birds enjoy sitting in the trees beside the terrace, and enjoyed feeding from our hands. So very wonderful to watch these birds.

The room was outstandingly good and spacious and full of character – with a hospitality tray and delicious biscuits in a jar….we absolutely loved it. There were lovely areas for relaxation in the grounds including a pool.

Sue has wealth of useful knowledge about the area and knows all the best hiking trails, walks and restaurants the area has to offer.

The home has a wonderful common lounge where all guests gathered around the huge fireplace to keep warm and have a laugh…. We even all watched the Royal Wedding in this delightful lounge.... it was pure magic !

and…. last but not least…. The wonderful animals (a dog and cat) make the Kingfisher Country House, a warm “very much at home” stay !

Phil and Sue are certainly outstanding hosts, and I plan to visit again in December…. CAN’T WAIT !!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !

We stayed here on Mar 21,2011 while on a Garden route tour. Superb is the only adjective that comes to mind about the Kingfisher Country House. The rooms are very clean, spacious and eloquently decorated. Breakfast is home baked ( to die for ) and served on the Veranda where one can enjoy the scenic views as well as watch the spectacular variety of birds at the feeder. Sue and Phil are excellent hosts and we would make it a point to stay here again. There are also lots of activities very nearby from canoeing, hiking and of course the beach. We give the Kingfisher
"5 THUMBS UP."

We spent the most fascinating days at Kingfisher's with Sue and Phil. We arrived in the beautiful well kept garden surrounding the house and met Sue who showed us the house and our room. Everything was perfect, the rooms tastefully furnished, and there is a huge terrace where you have breakfast or just sit and relax. Sue is a great lover of birds, feeds the thrushes from her hand and had us watch the sunbirds and Knysna Lourie just in front of us. Petra, my wife, was so excited about the birds that she nearly forgot her breakfast. I was so excited about the breakfast that I nearly forgot the birds. Sue spends hours in the kitchen to serve the most wonderful breakfasts every morning. We had interesting conversations in the evenings and Sue gave us lots of good advice where to go and what to see during our stay. We really appreciate Sue's and Phil's kindness and hope to be with them again one day. Thank you, God bless, and hope to see you again soon!

Peaceful, relaxing, beautiful surroundings, amazing bird life and the four best hosts you will ever encounter in Phil, Sue, Tessa and Houdini ensure that you will return to this idyllic retreat. As I wrote in the guest book visiting Kingfisher Country House is like visiting family, but the type of family one would choose not the type of family one is born with. They make you feel so welcome, so part of their life that one yearns to return. We've had two visits already this year and there will be more.
