At the end of a three week birding and wildlife adventure in South Africa we were fortunate enough to stay at Kingfisher. Not only were the hosts welcoming and delightful, they took great pleasure in showing us the forest birds which came to their well stocked feeder, including some very difficult to see species. It could not have been a nicer finale to our visit.

Room Tip: The rooms off the balcony are the best for viewing the gardens and birds.

We are just so blessed to have such beautiful birds in our garden and surrounding forests and it is always such fun having birders to stay with us, we really enjoy it. I don't know why but birders and naturalists are always happy people!! I am glad that you enjoyed your holiday, you went to really diverse habitats and your bird list was amazing. Thank you so much for the lovely review, we hope to see you again in the future, until then happy birding !!
Best wishes,
Sue Millard

My husband and I had the most wonderful trip to S. Africa in July 2013. We stayed at Kingfisher Country House and simply can't wait to go back again!! Kingfisher House is idyllic in every sense. We were welcomed with open arms and immediately felt totally "At Home". Our room was simply charming, very "Laura Ashley" in style. The huge bed was exceptionally comfortable! Everything was immaculate, totally spotless! The breakfast was simply delicious! Sue and Phil were a delight, friendly and helpful. Their enthusiasm for travel and exploring was so evident with Sue giving us the most useful advice on beautiful trips and glorious locations. Truly a beautiful place to stay!!

Thank you so much for your kind comments!! It was a real pleasure to have such happy guests staying with us and that you felt "at home" It is so important for Phil and me that the guests are able to completely relax, because that is what holidays are all about. Our area is so beautiful, as is our country and we really want visitors to experience the best that is available. We can't wait for you to visit us again. Until then, have a great 2013.

George and I loved spending two nights here. Sue and Phil are so genuine and love their place, their birds, dog, cat and doing what they do. Plus Sue gives THE best local tips and one of them led us to seeing 4 Southern Right Whales at play in Witsand Bay on our way back yo Camps Bay. WOW!

It was super having you to stay at Kingfisher Country house. Thank you so much for writing such a lovely review. We are really happy that you saw whales in Witsand. Many people don't know that there are nearly always whales in that area during the whale season, there is something very special about seeing these huge animals propel themselves out of the water with such agility (breaching) amazing!! We hope to welcome you back in the future.
Best wishes for a wonderful 2013,
Sue Millard.

We often use Kingfisher as an overnight stop when driving between Cape Town and East London. Yes we know it is not half way, but we do this because the hospitality is above excellent, the location is absolutely beautiful, and you actually feel like you are overnighting at a really good family or friend's house. The only regret we have when we stay for just a night is that we haven't stayed longer as it is the kind of establishment that you just don't want to leave. Sue and Phil have a little gem here, and it is Sue and Phil that make it the gem it is. This time around we had our 2 year old son with us and he loved it. The garden is pretty magical when you are 41, but when you are 2 it must be 100 times more magical with loads of areas to be explored, small hills to run up and roll down, wooden canoes to be discovered, real railway tracks to be walked along (don't worry, they are disused), Houdini (the cat) to play with and wild birds to be fed. He loved every minute, as did we. Yes we've been here a few times now, but driving past and staying elsewhere would just feel wrong. Do yourself a favour, stay 2 or 3 nights here, you will be very glad you did.

Room Tip: Any room is good, but the two rooms on the Knysna end provide a little more space.

Once again, thank you for a wonderful review. It is always lovely to have you and your family to stay with us and it was such fun to see Ethan enjoying feeding the birds and playing with Houdini. We continue to look for a happy, loving dog like Tessa and hope to have one the next time you visit us. Guests do become friends and it is always great to be able to catch up on what you have been doing between visits. Hopefully one day we will see the return of the Outeniqua Choe-tjoe, can you imagine the excitement then?! We are looking forward to your next visit and seeing how little Ethan
has grown, they grow so quickly. Wishing you all the very best for 2013.
Best wishes,
Phil and Sue Millard.

Our stay at Kingfisher Country House was an absolute spoil! The owners Sue & Phil are some of the most hospitable hosts I've come across. They'll help you out with absolutely everything you need to know about Wilderness and The Garden Route, before you could even think what to ask and make you feel at home right away. I do enjoy a few spoils here and there and the night we arrived, I found a flask of sherry complete with a couple of crystal glasses next to the bed to warm the heart and the duvet turned down with chocolates on our pillows :-) . When we eventually woke up (I could have slept in that bed forever!) to the sweet songs of the birds our eyes were met by a bountiful breakfast of delights fit for a King! This place is a birds, beds and breakfast lovers paradise that I would recommend to anyone (it is very good value for money) travelling on The Garden Route. Thanks again Sue & Phil for an absolutely amazing weekend!

What a lovely review Kyro, thank you!! We love to spoil our guests, you are worth spoiling. You were such easy guests to have staying with us despite the weather?! We enjoy treating our guests the way we would like to be treated and it is always fun to have a chocolate on one's pillow and sherry to warm you up and ensure that you relax after an active day. We appreciate the lovely comments you made and hope to see you again soon.

The most delightful Bed & Breakfast guesthouse in such a beautiful, peaceful setting. The hosts, Sue and Phil, are warm and welcoming and breakfast is delicious and welcome change from usual "full English" breakfast. Sue is full of ideas and enthusiasm with suggestions for ways to spend days in the area. The final B is for BIRDS - so many varieties to watch from the veranda, feeding close by and flying around the garden. A bird watchers paradise!

Good morning,
Thank you Lis for a happy review, we always appreciate reviews. We are really glad that you enjoyed your stay. We try and vary the breakfasts every morning as I feel the same way that you do about " full English breakfasts" as it becomes rather tedious having the same thing every day!! We look forward to seeing you again when you are next in Wilderness and enjoyed having you to stay with us. Best wishes for a happy year ahead.

We stayed 3 nights in this lovely guest house, run by Sue and Philip, who were incredibly helpful and friendly and provided us with the most wonderful breakfasts, as well as ideas for what to do with our days. Sue said she could give us enough ideas for ten days - sadly we didn't have the time!. Whilst there we kayacked up a gorge very close to the house, before walking over a boardwalk up through woods to magical pools and a waterfall, where we swam and ate Sue's freshly cooked muffins for lunch. Another day we visited Swartsberg Pass, an unforgettable drive through magical rock formations and stunning scenery.
We chose Kingfisher primarily because of the amount of birds near the property - little did we realise how many we would see, as we sat on the tranquil verandah, eating our breakfast.
Thank you Sue and Philip for giving us such a memorable stay - hopefully one day we will be back.

What a super review, thank you so much. As there are so many beautiful places to explore, it is a difficult choice to make but Swartberg Pass is one of the most magnificent passes in South Africa, the scenery is amazing and it is one of our favorite drives. We really enjoyed having you to stay with us and look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Best wishes,
