this hotel is great because the rooms and bathrooms are spacious and clean. the beds are really comfortable. the rest of the hotel is a bit low on the fanciness which is needed when youre spending the day in and around Ballito/ Umhlanga. decent breakast and attentive front desk staff complete the offering to make the stay not quite memorable, but extremely comfortable.

Very good value for money.
No complaints.
It is a new hotel, so staff still seem to be learning.
About a 5 min drive from the beach. Close to shopping centre and N2 freeway.
Rooms were clean. Staff were friendly.
Basement parking.
Decent breakfast served.
Will return.

I will not recommend this hotel to anyone. They have portter trolleys but no porters, a reception without a receptionist. The day we arrived, after an eight hour drive, there was no porter, I stood at the reception, I knocked on the desk and looked all around. Eventually the phone rang then the receptionist arrived at the desk.

After carrying all the baggage up myself, my wife had to take care of our 5 month old baby, I got the chance to see the room. The bathroom has a once showed but no curtain or shower door. When showering the water splashes all over the room. Having a tiled floor you will slip. The toilet falling of the will, the basin without a plug. Then looking at the rest, it was pleasant. The aircon leaks into the carpet, saturating the surrounding area. The plaster is failing of the wall, rising damp or just poor workmanship. The noise from the highway gets to a level of a drill in the room next door.

The parking is a total failure. The layout is shocking, part is almost impossible to get into.

We never felt welcomed at this hotel. We have stayed in several other places and there we always felt welcomed. Fridge always stocked with milk and every day we got back biscuits and chocolate. At the Hampshire, who is one of the most costly, we never received any welcoming hospitality.

This place is a no go, you can get a lot more for a lot less at other hotels in the area.

I found my stay at the Hampshire Hotel to be very pleasantly surprising. Not only was it extremely well priced and the rooms were very spacious but the staff bent over backwards to make our stay more comfortable. Everyone was extremely friendly and obliging and overall the stay was excellent, I will definitely go back to the Hampshire hotel in the future.

We were let down at the last minute by another establishment in La Lucia, so i had to find a reasonable hotel, as i had lost a lot of money on the other one. Hampshire appeared to offer all that i was looking for, bearing in mind that we were planning to spend most of the day away from the hotel. Check in was slow, receptionist pleasant but did not seem to be too sure of what she was doing. Rooms nice and spacious with large high beds and nice bedlinen, however the pillows were marked "firm" and "soft" on the cases and there was no difference. we could not sleep on the firm pillows and asked for soft ones, two arrived and they were soft but smelt of smokers, someone had breathed a lot of smoke into them and we could not sleep on them (i suggest pillow covers under the pillow case) until they changed the pillow cases the following morning. Walls nice and thick so not a lot of noise came in from the other rooms or corridor. Air conditioner very noisy and powered up all night. Curtains nice and thick so the morning sunlight did not come into the room. It does not appear that management regularly check the rooms as we had lights and a phone that did not work. Also the teabags and sugar were never replaced so we had to request these from reception. The biggest issue is that although free WiFi is offered, and a big selling point for me as we have such slow internet in Botswana that it appeared to be a big bonus - it did not work on i-phones or i-pads. when reception was questioned, she said yes she had had this problem before. I spoke to the IT consultants myself who claimed that no-one had raised this issue with them - however i see this mentioned in other reports too! They assured me that they would look into it and sort it out but i never received any feedback. Breakfast for R95 - considering what was on offer, this is a disgrace. We had lovely breakfasts with a lot more for a lot less in various establishments in the area. Overall not a bad place but they must be careful about over-promising and under-delivering, and if this is questioned, to deal with it professionally and efficiently.
