Snys and Elsie, the owners of this B&B are two of the nicest, warmest and hospitable people we have come across. If they are faking being nice and real, they should be on a reality show. The rooms are basic but very tastefully done; for long staying guests I believe there are mini-fridges. The bathrooms are so clean that we almost feel guilty messing them up. Tear yourself away from breakfast if you can. The lady at the buffet is so nice (and competent) that if you strike a conversation with her she can cook 15 eggs in 4 different ways without messing up one, and make you smile all at the same time. It's a guarantee that your sleep will be a peaceful one and if you need a wake-up call, I'm sure it can be organized. There is a small bar where one can buy your beer, wine, coca cola etc at a reasonable price. Security - something which is quite high on the priority list in South Africa - is good as it can be. Irene is probably the most secure village around Pretoria or perhaps even all of Gauteng province. Never once did I feel unsafe. Falling asleep after a hard days work is no problem whatsoever. Swimming pools come standard everywhere as do in-room heaters, in-room tea and coffee facilities. To me it was a relief to find no iron and ironing board in the cupboard;those have a habit of getting in the way. Should you need one, you can ask for it. Same as you can ask for a plaster/band-aid at anytime. Being a smoker, all I miss is the impossible and that is a smoke-friendly room. A heater in the bathroom would be nice but not of the essence. Personally I like a flat pillow. One of those that one can hug flat when one sleeps one one's stomach. There are plentiful really nice restaurants just a little further than 'just-around-the-corner' from The Colonial and if one wants to eat in for the evening, a home cooked meal can be organised with prior arrangement. I've been trying to find something to complain about or something to find wrong with this establishment but have failed dismally. It is a gem.
