It was a Sunday and although we had booked the night in another lodge (self-catering) we were looking for a place to have dinner, but all restaurants, gas stations, supermarkets in the surroundings were closed and we weren't in the mood to drive another 30min to go to Hoeadspruit to dine and then back to the lodge so we asked around and the only place that had a restaurant was Swadini Resort near the dam, so we decided to go there.
We asked the price for the night and after some negotiation we got an even better price than the one we had booked before for that night so we decided to give it a go. Also, as we wanted to see the Dam in the morning, it was a plus being so close. Anyway, we had no expectations, and were imagining some small self-catering shacks which would be ok. When getting to "room" 71, we saw a chalet, with garage, a big porch and everything. Getting inside was a surprise as it was a full equipped house, 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, one nice living area and a fully equipped kitchnet, with a view of a barbecue outside and a large porch. It's not anyway fancy, and although a bit old, it's a nice option for 2 couples or a family to get together for a nice cheap weekend in a beautiful area. As for the restaurant, it was nice, food is ok, clean and well organized. Great value for money.
Oh, and when you wake up and go outside, you see yourself surrounded by the immensely hight rock cliffs of the Blyde Canyon, truly a spectacular view.
