We had a very nice stay at the African Rock Lodge. The Lodge is nicely located, clean and very good equiped. The owners are very friendly, thanks for the nice evening! There are a plenty of animals to see in the reserve.

We had the pleasure of staying with Yvonne & Gerard for one night on our way from Elephant Plains to Hoedspruit for a morning flight. We had planned to drive the Panorama route and arrive late at African Rock, but we are glad that the weather did not cooperate and that we instead chose to arrive in the early evening. We were 3 girl friends from NYC ~40 yrs. old traveling for our first time in South Africa. The Lodge is on a wild life estate which makes for lots of unexpected fun. On arrival we were immediately greeted like family - it felt like arriving at your Aunt and Uncles summer home whom you had not seen in years - warm welcome, drinks at the bar and were immediately asked if we wanted to join them for dinner, which we did. It is a lovely place, where Yvonne has decorated it with loads of eye catching accessories that scream safari. it's so warm and lovely and after dinner we all sat around the yard, looked at each other pictures, told stories, had drinks and searched for animal on the dive home - like our only mini safari - and we found plenty! in the morning we took a walk into the reserve and had we had more time surely would have spotted many animals - just in a brief stroll we found cheetah tracks, saw spring bock, wart hogs, giraffe etc. This is a lovely place to base yourself and do drives into the parks, the town is very cute and we ate at an amazing spot that they will no doubt recommend that is converted from an old train station and run by all local women. The rooms are incredibly comfortable, and the bathroom huge with hot showers and beautiful amenities. The breakfast is delicious. It truly is more like staying at your family's house (it only has 4 rooms) than a lodge. I highly recommend it for anyone in that area or anyone looking for an alternative to staying in the resorts in the private reserves. They often go to Timbavati, I believe, on game drives and their pics were stunning. Hope to return!!
This is a lovely guest house cum lodge in a small nature reserve within easy reach of Kruger National Park and the Panoramic Route round Blyde River Canyon. It’s modern and beautifully designed throughout, with lots of personal touches and both the bedroom & bathroom would put many luxury or boutique hotels to shame. Yvonne and Gerard can’t do enough to help with directions, tips and everything else to make you feel very much at home and it would be a great place to spend more time, rather than just as a stopover on the way from Johannesburg which is what I did.
Thank you Gerard for extra service after our problems with our car. Thank you Yvonne for evrything you did to enjoy our stay in your Lodge. Excellent place to have a very good game with Gerad. And much more ....
Thanks Gerhard & Yvonne for your warm and pleasant hospitality. We were just overwhelmed by the service we experienced at African Rock. We will definitely utilize your service every time we in the area
We came to African Rock Lodge, unexpectedly, on Christmas Eve. From our first moments there until we left Africa Yvonne and Gerard were incredible hosts. We were made so welcome there and we have all now become friends. Great accommodation. Great food. Great service. Wonderful people... not forgetting lovely little Pheobe. We do not hesitate to recommend African Rock Lodge... you will not be disappointed: your visit can only be enhanced when you stay here. We shall return!
