“very disappointed with Alpine heath”
Reviewed 11 May 2014

We were so looking forward to this mountain retreat but UNFORTUNATELY, we were gravely disappointed. For a 4 star resort the chalets were not clean. From the first day I asked cleaning staff to please attend to the cobwebs filled with little spiders, all around the chaletl(chalet 89). Food stains, sticky door handles and door frame, walls and telephone. OVEN WAS FILTHY.These were not dealt with. We reported these grievances to reception and I am still waiting for housekeeping manager to call and inspect the chalet as I was repeatedly promised by the reception.Eventually I made the housekeeper and her pal begrudgingly clean up the chalet. The WALLS NEED A GENERAL CLEANING.
For a mountain retreat the music and entertainment was very loud throughout the day and during the evenings from the pub/entertainment area. We were expecting some peace in the mountains.
We also had a theft incident. My son's shoes were handed in at reception which were promptly stolen overnight by the employees of the resort from reception/housekeeping. Spoke to management and 3 phone calls later no response.
Nice setting very friendly staff need serious attention to housekeeping especially to housekeeping manager. Also need more cooking utensils and pots.

Many thanks your feedback. Feedback from our guests remain an integral part of measuring customer satisfaction and implementing corrective measures. Your comments regarding our housekeeping standards will certainly be addressed with my management team. I would like to apologise to you for your poor experience in this regard.
At Three Cities Alpine Heath Resort we pride ourselves in providing an extensive entertainment program for our guests and have identified this to be the niche market that we cater for. We try to find a balance between the peacefulness and tranquillity that the environment lends itself to and the entertainment that we try to provide our guests. We believe that by providing music on two / three nights out of the seven nights of the week’s provides us with the best balance.
I am aware that the issue pertaining to your shoes has been addressed with our Rooms Division Manager and trust that the resolution in this regard will be received amicably on the part of all parties.
Once again please accept my apologies regarding the housekeeping and other issues.
Kind regards

We stayed at Alpine Heath resort to participate in a mountain biking event in the area. The service was excellent and the food at the restaurant was really good. We had a great time and there was so much for the kids to do, including riding their bikes without us having to watch them all the time. The only problem for us was that the state of the couches wee bad, but we warned by reception before hand so it was expected.

Overall it was an excellent stay and we will be back.

Stayed at this resort again just to relax and unwind. Even though I agree that the units are dated and really need to be upgraded, the units are really clean and comfortable. The couches are in the process of being replaced this week and the new couches are really great. This is really the place where friends are made, especially Terrisai at the coffee shop, Sifiso at the shop and of course never forgetting the "one and only" Praisegod!, who is always most welcoming at the entrance to the resort. These are the people who make the resort special, they go out of their way to make sure that we and our children are taken care off. It's a place where the kids can be free in a safe environment and where they are sure to be entertained and never bored. The hikes are amazing and paths are well signed and clean.
My family and I are sure to return in the near future!, and hopefully management will have some future plans for upgrading of the units.

We have just spent the Easter weekend at the resort. The location and surroundings of the resort is breath-taking, however the unit(No.70) itself was extremely disappointing for a 4 star resort. Firstly the patio tiles were badly stained with grease, when we entered the unit the couches in the lounge were, putting it mildly, disgusting. We were told at reception about the couches but we did not think it would be that bad. surely the entire couch could have had a throw over it and not just the back until you had them recovered. The carpet in the lounge had burn marks all over and was very dirty., surely such a small piece of carpet can be replaced at minimum cost.. The cutlery, toaster was not only of very poor quality and also badly stained and unclean. Hope our comments are taken into account. All other aspects of the resort were very good viz staff, facilities, activities. P Morris

Dear Mr Morris

Many thanks for your feedback. Feedback both positive and negative assists us in monitoring and improving the level of service we offer our guests. Your comments have been taken into consideration. I would like to assure that the resort is currently undergoing a process where all the couches are being replaced and a large segment of the resort couches have already been replaced. As soon as the fabric arrives in the country the balance of the couches will be completed.

In terms of the patio tiles we have identified that these are rust stains from the patio furniture on the tile itself and we have tried everything to remove them, unfortunately they are embedded in the tile themselves. I would like to assure you that these are not grease stains. In order to remove the stains we will be required to retile the patio’s.

I once again would like to apologise to you for any inconvenience caused as a result of these items.

Many thanks

Our family loves staying at Alpine Heath as there is so much for the kids to do, we hardly see them the whole weekend! I love that they can ride their bikes or skateboards safely and there is no need to panic about them - a very safe environment.

Room Tip: We stayed in the self catering chalets which always helps to keep costs down.

The drive from KZN to Drakensberg was pleasant. Alpine heath resort is set in a tranquil environment with lots of fun activities for the whole family. The views and trails were very beautiful and peaceful. The staff were very polite and always willing to assist. Of course with 40 in the family it was great fun.The resort is very safe and the accommodation was comfortable. We also celebrated my niece's 16th birthday and danced the night away.We were warmly welcomed from the moment we entered the security gates, great staff. We would most certainly consider going back to Alpine Heath Resort just to relax and unwind.
