“Good comfy room”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 September 2013

Only stayed one night in a very comfortable rondavel - well equipped and very clean.

We decided not to cook as we understood that the restaurant was not run by Compass group.
We were proved right - the meal was very well presented by caring attentive staff. Wish all the other eateries ( can't call them restaurants!) in the park were as good.

Room Tip: Book early for a better choice

This review is just of the restaurant, that we ate at twice while staying at other camps nearby. It has a lovely setting and ambiance, with views over the dame from the terrace and an airy stylish feel to the areas "indoors". The food was of high quality compared with any other KNP restaurants we have eaten at - creative menu, well prepared and presented. The staff were friendly but the service was appallingly slow on both occasions - to take orders, to serve the food, and to bring the bill, even though they were not full on either occasion. A little training would go a long way......

One of the newer and nicer rest camps in Kruger Park. Facilities are defnitely nicer, although many old timers like the charm of the older camps. Very well situated in an area with lots of elephants. Separate laundry facility. Nice restaurant overlooking the lake. Sounds of hippos on the lake are common.

Room Tip: Try to get a unit that faces the lake.

We had the misfortune of spending two nights at the Mopani Rest camp. The luxury 3 bedroom unit we booked was dirty, the crockery was either chipped or broken and the toaster did not work. both the toilets leaked and all the taps dripped. This despite the signs posted that we should conserve water.
Housekeeping totally neglected to clean the bathrooms after the first night. After bringing it to the attention of the camp manager and requesting housekeeping to return our request was ignored
The Kruger National park is amazing in that you can see a whole lot of wildlife, the facilities and accommodation on the other hand is antiquated, dirty and very expensive.

Coffee was really good, food was cold. Management told me they knew that; because the kitchen equipment was faulty. Then don't offer it for sale; I didn't pay you half did I! You make South Africa appear backward. Friendly service all round from waitering staff.

This is the second time we have visited this camp once in 2007 for our honeymoon and in December 2012 with family. The bungalows are nice and clean and have all the equipment for a self catering stay, although the pound goes a very long way in SA, we would recommend that you bring as much food and alcohol as possible because the camp shop prices are very expensive, like the rest of the park. There is a nice bar / restaurant area with great views of the water with lots of animal activity, service is a bit slow, but you come accustomed to that being in SA. There is a nice pool area, only problem no sun loungers or pool towels which is bit of a pain, as it's not nice lying on the grass where there are lots of insects, but again this is typical of not staying in a private lodge.
Not much to do but a nice place to chill out and eat and drink, good braai area and fire pit which are cleaned daily. Be careful of the olive grass snakes that like to frequent the long grasses by the bungalows!!! A tip to Mopani, keep the gardens by the bungalows trimmed as it's not nice coming face to face with a snake which looks like a mamba / boomslang!!

Room Tip: Try and stay in bungalow 101, great views and there is a lovely boabab tree, or the 8 birth bungalow...

Mopani has a rustic feel to it. Very quiet and not very busy when we visited in March of 2013. The food was better than anywhere else we stayed in the park!! The area was terrific for animals and you have the bush to yourself while self driving. You'll love this place if you're planning on traveling on your own to the Kruger. The rooms are a little more expensive than other areas but you have a two room cabin with two bathrooms and four beds - so perfect for a family of 4 - it will cost you about US$100 per night. Meals are US$10-US$15 for a large delicious meal.
