“Nice camp, updated accomodation”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2012

This was the second of the rest camps that we stayed in at the Kruger. As usual staff at the reception did not have the best service skills, chatting to each other and texting on their mobile phones whilst attending to your booking. Did consider asking did they win their camp of the year award for customer service ! Camp was easy to find way around, and chalets are set in a lovely woodland setting. This has recently had a refurbishment, and most of the accomodation are brick built bungalows with an inside kitchen. Has a nice area outside for a braai with brick seating to accomodate a large group of friends. Inside was clean and tidy, although the toilet and shower area were a little tired. But remember this is a public rest camp not a 5 star lodge, and it was clean and confortable and had lots of hot water which is all that you want after a day on safari. However you would struggle if very tall, as shower set very low on wall. Lots of bird life in camp with hornbills and franklin outside our door everyday. Also a lot of bug life, had an unwanted visitor of the biggest locust you have ever seen in our room, and had to fight way into chalets through a wealth of wildlife. You will need insect repellant here.Camp has a lovely swimming pool that was very clean and in a nice location, and great to cool down after a how trip out. Again has a small shop, cafe and restaurant which had the usual selection of mainly meat dishes , service was okay if a little slow . The area around here is more open and hilly than the rest of Kruger and here was the only place that we saw lions, about 10 foot from car and the only people there! Lots of vultures here to.
Nice walk around the dam available here and a nice outside eating area where we sat for breakfast, Try not to change the menu order too much, as no'one writes anything down, and by the time it arrives it bares no resemblance to what you ordered. But just grin and bear it and accept that it is Africa!
One of the better camps that we stayed in , recommend that if you are staying for a few days ask for the Wild Card that gives you a discounted conservation rate, staff don't promote it at all, and it will save you money.

Room Tip: Ask for a perimetre room, book a wild card for discounted conservation rates.

Berg-en-Dal is a great rest camp. Don't get me wrong. We saw all of the big 5 within 3 days and all around the rest camp itself. The game outside the camp gate were amazing and an abundance of them too. The cottages were OK but don't expect it to be 5 star. the cottages are a bit tired. we had a 6 birth cottages which was neat and tidy and kind of cleaned every morning. the cleaner couldn't speak English but what the hek.

The staff at the restaurant were really the worst i have ever seen in my life. they really weren't too keen to be there. their service was shocking when they actually decided to take orders. they really didn't like being there and seemed like you owed them big time. the Park will really have to have a good look at that as it seemed like more than half the people there were foreigners.

other than that - great camp

Room Tip: ask to be close to the restaurant and the pool.

My family and I stayed at the Berg-en-Dal rest camp at the start of our week in Kruger. We were honestly expecting it to be just a quick stop-over to break up our long car trip, but it ended up being a highlight of our time in the park. The self-catering chalet we stayed in was clean and comfortable, perfect for 3 adults traveling together. The braai area was a nice touch, and made for a delicious dinner. In addition to the good accomodation, we were pleasantly surprised by how much wildlife we saw around the camp--spotting 4 of the "Big 5" our first full day.

All-in-all a very good experience. If anyone is looking for a SANParks restcamp to stay at, I recommend Berg-en-Dal.

Berg and Dal main camp Kruger Park was overall a good experience, units were clean, and most utensils etc were present. The bird life was awesome and the pool most welcome. the sunset game drive was good and the bush walk was also a lovely experience, except for the cheeky guide, Raymond who clearly lacked any client service skills.

This camp is well located within the kruger park, and we saw 4 of the 5big ones nearby. The room-concept is good, as rooms have a kitchen and an outdoor bbq, but they could have been much cleaner. We had insects in the toilet, but maybe this happens normally as we were inside a nature park. Blankets were dirty and beds were not comfortable. There was also rancid food from previous guests as welcome gift!!!!Service was poor and hospitality was not there!they did not answer to our questions properly, did not offer any help nor recommendation. The restaurant's quality was quite low and far from attractive. There is a supermarket with everything, at very affordable prices.

Berg-en-dal was the best of the three camps we stayed in, the rooms were large and spacious. Outside was a large patio with all the utensils for a Braai. there were walks that you could go on and I would like to have spent more nights at this camp as the facilities were great.

i have been to many places, but i am going here again this december!! berg-en-dal has so far to me been the best camp, the service is fantastic,we were given a brand new braai on arrival!! they had a water problem the second day we were there, on going to reception to enquire about this the liason gentleman, was most apologetic and informed us they were aware of the problem and promised to have it sorted within the hour, and it was! from the ladies cleaning the ablution blocks to the young lady working in the shop, always friendly smilling and most helpfull
