This was the second of the rest camps that we stayed in at the Kruger. As usual staff at the reception did not have the best service skills, chatting to each other and texting on their mobile phones whilst attending to your booking. Did consider asking did they win their camp of the year award for customer service ! Camp was easy to find way around, and chalets are set in a lovely woodland setting. This has recently had a refurbishment, and most of the accomodation are brick built bungalows with an inside kitchen. Has a nice area outside for a braai with brick seating to accomodate a large group of friends. Inside was clean and tidy, although the toilet and shower area were a little tired. But remember this is a public rest camp not a 5 star lodge, and it was clean and confortable and had lots of hot water which is all that you want after a day on safari. However you would struggle if very tall, as shower set very low on wall. Lots of bird life in camp with hornbills and franklin outside our door everyday. Also a lot of bug life, had an unwanted visitor of the biggest locust you have ever seen in our room, and had to fight way into chalets through a wealth of wildlife. You will need insect repellant here.Camp has a lovely swimming pool that was very clean and in a nice location, and great to cool down after a how trip out. Again has a small shop, cafe and restaurant which had the usual selection of mainly meat dishes , service was okay if a little slow . The area around here is more open and hilly than the rest of Kruger and here was the only place that we saw lions, about 10 foot from car and the only people there! Lots of vultures here to.
Nice walk around the dam available here and a nice outside eating area where we sat for breakfast, Try not to change the menu order too much, as no'one writes anything down, and by the time it arrives it bares no resemblance to what you ordered. But just grin and bear it and accept that it is Africa!
One of the better camps that we stayed in , recommend that if you are staying for a few days ask for the Wild Card that gives you a discounted conservation rate, staff don't promote it at all, and it will save you money.
