“Excellent choice ffor stay”

We were a group of six and chose to stay at this game lodge for a night. We booked a two bedrooms chalet. Extra beds were put for kids. Kitchenette was fully equipped. There was a nice family space inside as well outside the chalet. Barbeque klin was provided. The best part was being amidst nature.
I would say that the chalet was very clean, well furnished and unintimidating. The camp is very well maintained.

This camp was easily accessible. The accommodations were clean. The bathroom was very tiny and extremely easy to stub your toe on the door stop that was right in front of the toilet and entrance to the shower. We saw the most wild life at this rest camp area as opposed to Olifants and it may have been because of the time of year we went. The kitchen was nice with an electric hot water kettle. We did eat at the restaurant which was pretty poor as far as quality of food. The hamburger tasted rancid I actually had to order something else and the ketchup was definitely OFF. Just don't eat there but the camp is a great place to stay to get an early start into the park.

The Kruger National Park is a major attraction for international and local tourists. How sad, then, to see such clear evidence of mismanagement and long-term neglect in this popular rest camp.
Over a three night period, my 6-year-old son and I stayed in three different 3-bed perimeter bungalows in Berg-en-Dal.
The first of these, number 80, had grubby interior walls; the 2-plate stove was old and rusty, the mattresses were old and sagging. The outside furniture was in dire need of sanding and re-varnishing. The shower needed a scrub.
The second unit was very nice indeed; it seems that, for those in the know, there are certain units which have been upgraded and can be "requested" at no extra cost. Pity all units are not up to this standard.
The third unit we occupied also had outside furniture which was in need of re-varnishing. In the early hours of the morning the temperature dropped, and so I got up to close the window above my son's bed. I found that the glass was missing, and I had to use pillows from the spare bed to stuff into the hole.
We tried one evening to have a meal in the restaurant, but regretted our decision; if took 15 minutes for a waiter to appear to take our orders, and the food took a further 45 minutes to be delivered (one plate of pasta, one grilled chicken). Only three other tables were occupied.
I have been a regular visitor to the Kruger Park for many years; never have I seen a camp so badly maintained and managed. Very sad.

Room Tip: Call the booking centre and ask for one of the "upgraded" units; they cost the same.

We stayed here 2 nights in self-catering cabin. There were 3 adults and 2 children and we were very comfortable. Plenty of space. It was clean and comfortable. The lighting wasn't very good throughout. The Rhino path on the property was fun to walk. We left nuts out on the counter and apparently a squirrel got in and ate them (we asked the staff what happened). The kids enjoyed the pool.

I did not stay overnight here, and only visited the Berg-en-Dal during the day. From the outside the chalets and rooms looked to be well cared for and clean. I overheard some people complaining about the cooking facilities in the room not being good for more elaborate meals, but for the basics, the appeared to fit the bill.

The day walks with the rangers is popular with the visitors. The rangers who guide these walks are extremely competent and know the bushveld. The game sighting on these walks was being raved about by the visitors.

The only downside here might be the restaurant. It needs a lot of improvement in the way it prepares and serves the food. Nowhere near the best that Kruger has to offer.

The big well equipped rooms are made out of bare bricks which we felt gave them a fairly stark feel - but hey it served is purpose and we were only there one night.

We had breakfast, which is the only meal we tend to have in Kruger rest camps, they can't really mess that up! Food was ok but what miserable staff - someone needs to put a rocket up them.

We liked the 'Rhino museum' which was very informative.

Room Tip: We had a perimeter room - not much point as it was so overgrown we couldn't see anything anyway.

we stayed in the self catering chalets. we bought groceries in melalene and even before the camp saw some animals - crocodiles and hippopotamus in the river and impalas and elephants too. the chalets are for 3 persons very spacious and well equipped. the camp is near a dam and there is a nice path just inside the fence where you can stroll and see the animals and birds and nice trees and shrubs on the way. we cooked our supper and breakfast, in the evening everyone had a braii fire...we had a night safari which we liked.
