I was completely blown away by this lodge. The staff was friendly and consistently went above and beyond what was expected. The natural beauty of the lodge was stunning, but the lodge itself is decorated wonderfully, and majestic. We stayed in one of the private suites, which comes equipped with a personal butler and chef. The chef's food was incredible and completely flexible when it came to our tastes. The food was fresh and diverse even though we were in the middle of the bush. The ranger and tracker that we had for our game drives were so knowledgable and interesting. Plus, we saw the big five within the first 24 hours of our stay! During the three days we spent at Royal Malewane we saw a cheetah everyday, and saw a leopard on the drive from the airport to the lodge. Royal Malewane also has an excellent spa available. Honestly, I've travelled to some pretty amazing places, but this was truly a once in a life time experience. The staff manages to make you feel like family, the lodge is high end without being stuck up, and the exposure to wild life is unparalleled. If you're going to South Africa, Royal Malewane needs to be on your life.

We just came back from a visit to Africa where we stayed at the Royal Malewane and its sister property in Franschoek, La Residence. Both properties are tops in their respective areas but very different. The Royal Malewane is the ultimate in a luxury safari experience. The staff is cordial and provides a warm atmosphere. There are no set schedules for meals or activities and you can go into the dining area, which is not enclosed unless there is inclimate weather anytime you desire. The game drive guides are extremely knowledgeable. Our guide was Jon and his tracker was Jonas. They were able to find the two pride of Lions, the leopard mother and her two young offspring, elephants, buffalo, rhinos, etc., etc. Jon provided us with useful information on the wildlife. Mr. Jackson, the general manager since the Royal Malewane was opened was available and engaging. The "special" after drive dinners were a surprise and showed that the property really wanted to "Wow" you.

Room Tip: The odd numbered rooms have pools that the elephants have easy access to and sometimes you can see t...

Promise: This is a once-in-a-lifetime type of safari experience. There are plenty of amazing lodges in South Africa — I’ve been to a handful! Royal Malewane should be on your list. Intimate, run with loving care of an attentive owner; both the perfect safari-style chic and the laid back tasteful vibe make it one of the world’s very top lodges. Staff, food, services & amenities couldn’t be better — you’ll not want to leave.

Royal Malewane was the best game lodge we've experienced in four trips to Africa. The staff, accommodations and food were top notch. From viewing elephants drinking from our "private" plunge pool to an elegant dinner in the bush, the experience surpassed our expectations. Given that our Ranger (Juan) was a wildlife expert, his knowledge of Nikon and Canon SLRs was an added bonus. We plan to return....

The game viewing was excellent and the rangers were very knowledgable. The rooms are beautiful and the service is very catering to the guests. Would love to go back and have another experience here.

Every aspect of my stay was utterly superb. The experience surpassed my expectations in every way. I am staggered that anyone could find fault!

The spacious, elegant bedrooms each have a wrap around deck with both covered and open lounging areas, dining table and a large plunge pool which the elephants did come and drink from it (we had room 7)! The food was divine - whatever you wanted, when you wanted. The game drives were fantastic and our ranger Nick was exceptionally knowledgeable and professional.

The spa was very luxurious and the treatments were to a very high standard. A lovely treat after lunch every day.

Utterly superb!

lovely setting, friendly staff, fairly clean, facilities kinda getting ready for their first facelift. the drives into the bush are the highlight of this camp. very knowledgable and professional guides. the food and spa are weak. requested food preferences never addressed. we asked for fresh fruits and veggies for the five days we were here, never happened, it was very frustrated. we never expected so much deep fried processed pre packaged frozen foods. think chicken nuggets and tater tots also, everything is covered in sweet and saltly sauces. spa services were inconsistent. some in our group got great treatments and others were just so so. over all not really worth a second trip.

Room Tip: all rooms pretty much the same.
