“A Beautiful Lodge in a Lovely Setting”
Reviewed 26 August 2013

Tinga Lodge is one of four properties in the Lion Sands collection of lodges. It is pleasantly situated on the bank of the Sabie River amidst an abundance of wildlife. Our separate suite was immense and relatively simply furnished. The large veranda was equipped with two deckchairs and its own whirlpool bath. The main bath facilities were rather basic, and the separate shower area became blocked and flooded onto the bathroom floor each time we used it. There is no Wi-Fi service in the room and only limited service in the main lodge building.
All meals were served buffet-style on the main lodge’s deck. The food was good, although not particularly imaginative. Diners must be on guard against the prolific vervet monkeys, who would leap onto the table and snatch food at the slightest opportunity.
Tinga and its neighboring lodges offer a variety of wildlife safaris, beginning early in the morning and extending into the evenings. These safaris provide a unique opportunity to see a large variety of wildlife and are led by courteous and experienced rangers and trackers.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good but guests should try to request one near to the main lodge as some are quite...

While Tinga is close to Skukuza, the metropolis of KNP, you will not realise this, being surrounded by beautiful bushveld. You will enjoy safaris on a private road network and have the potential to view a wide variety of game. We were very lucky to see black rhino! This is a great spot in The Kruger Park , easily accessible and very relaxing. Well worth a visit.

The location was right on the river where you could see animals from the window of your room. The rangers and spotters were really interested in making sure we saw "the big 5." Plus, if you had an interest in an animal, they would find it for you. The rooms were big, nice and clean. The WiFi in the reception area was kind of slow, but you are "in the bush."

I took my girlfriend last month to spend 2 nights at Narina Lodge and ended up engaged a few hours after our arrival. The setting over the Sabie River along with extensive deck space for outdoor relaxing and dining is a sight to behold. Each suite is totally private, very spacious and overlooks the river and bushveld below with opportunities to sight game from the privacy and comfort of your room. The staff were attentive and professional, with special mention to manager Grant who with his housekeeping staff went to great lengths to make the setting for the proposal, the treehouse, extremely special. The chef, Bennick, served up delicious meals and even catered for my fiance's food allergies with more ease than a restuarant in the city could have which was impressive. The game viewing was spectacular with both guide and tracker leading us to impressive sightings. Highly recommend this lodge to anyone wanting a first class Kruger experience.

What a spectaculr lodge. Comfortable and incredibly appointed rooms along with excellent and attentive service. Going to Krueger for the safari runs then stay here where you get it all. Be comfortable while being able to see animals outside your room. The food was also very good.

Room Tip: All the rooms in this small intimate lodger are great.

Tinga Resorts has 2 properties - Legends and Narina, diagonally across the riverbank from each other, though you can't actually see the other resort. We stayed at Legends, known by staff as the main resort even though both looks identical and guests will get identical experiences from either.

I should just be reviewing the resort but we packaged our entire trip including flight, transportation, accommodation and game drives.

Our experience started from Nelspruit airport where we were picked up our charter flight pilot which as a 15min bumpy ride (its a tiny propeller plane) though a fantastic experience into Suzuka airstrip within Kruger National Park. Following that, we were immediately picked up by our land transportation and driven to Tinga Legends Lodge, our accommodation for the next 2 nights. On arrival, we were warmly welcomed by staff, served a nice cold drink, and walked to our suite.

There are 2 game drives each day, and our ranger and tracker are both superbly amazing. Leopards are generally not easily found in Kruger, and on our first drive, we managed to spot a few different leopards, and even one stalking its prey!

On our 3rd drive, we were only missing the elephant of the big 5, and our ranger decided on a scenic area overlooking the riverbank for our break, and we saw a hippo at close range going into the riverbank, and a young elephant coming from afar, walking about 100m right past us!

Pluses:
Our entire experience is a plus, there isn't one thing bad to say about this place.
The room was awesome, huge with underfloor heating, huge bed with optional thicker blankets for colder nights
View of the riverbank, where sometimes animals popped around to say hello. Privacy from your neighbours.
A huge huge bathroom with a nice tub overlooking the riverbank. A separate shower area as well
A little chalkboard which is your way to communicate/leave messages with/for your housekeeper
All meals were included, which means snack before morning game drive, snack during game drive, breakfast, lunch, snack before afternoon game drive, snack during game drive, dinner. Each of the main meals was like having a meal at a high end restaurant, with choices for each meal. Other than breakfast, which had about 5 different choices and were the same selection for the 2 breakfasts we were there for, lunch and dinner selection were different everyday.
Mealtimes were amazing, other than the food selection, they move their seating so that guests feel like they are in a different environment all the time.
Our ranger & tracker - the most awesome ever. We even had dinner with our ranger and his stories and experience was simply exhilarating.

Minuses:
Water pressure was a little low, but then again, you're in a lodge, so not a big deal
Our shower area got a little choked up, just give it a while for the water to flow off
Our return charter flight was cancelled due to bad weather and in turn, we had to leave the lodge 2 hours earlier for land transportation to make it to Nelspruit airport. Nothing to do with the lodge, blame it on bad weather. would have loved to spend a 2 extra hours enjoying the lodge.

Room Tip: Generally they are all great. Our room was the closest room to the main lobby but still it was quiet...

Tinga is a wonderful lodge with an incredible location on the banks of the Sabie river. The views from the main deck as well as from the rooms are really quite special. The rooms were great with really comfortable beds, a spacious lounge area as well as decks with plunge pools and loungers.
The thing I think I was most impressed by was the food we had whilst we were there. My boyfriend and I really are foodies and we were impressed with absolutely everything we ate!!! Lunch and dinner time was always something we looked forward to as we were presented with a different menu each mean with varied options- always with starters and then fish, meat and vegetarian option as well as delicious desserts. Breakfast was also pretty hard to beat- especially for a relatively small lodge.
The service we received was great, especially from Reading at breakfast, Samantha at dinner and also each time we were escorted back to our room.
I must admit from our side though the safaris themselves weren't the greatest we've experienced- we didn't see much on one or two drives. I do think however that this is often very much a case of good or bad luck and nothing to do with the ranger and tracker. Once again- the food- the snacks (particularly afternoon) for our breaks during drives were incredible!!!
We had a lovely weekend away though- and would recommend to anyone wanting to spend some time in the beautiful bush!!
