“Pure Luxury In The Wild”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 August 2014 via mobile

We spent three nights at Lukimbi in April 2013 (apologies for the late review). This lodge is pure luxury bang in the middle of the jungle. It was about an hour and a half drive from the airport - the last half hour of which was spent after entering the national reserve watching wild animals all around us.
The rooms were much more than what we could have imagined and the open air shower and river facing bath tub was out of the world. Each day we did a safari in the morning followed by a mid day jungle walk and then another safari in the evening. We were lucky enough to see pretty much all the animals apart from the cheetah and wild bison. But five spottings really stood out. First, spending a complete evening watching nine lions and a lioness sprawl out. Second, a bit of domestic violence with a male rhino beating bloody his partner who was only trying to protect her child. Third, a herd of elephants first conferencing and then completely uprooting a tree. Fourth, being surrounded by two different herds of elephants while on our jungle walk. And lastly, our ranger Andrew spotting a green snake while he was driving the Land Rover and bringing it to us.
What made the trip surreal was the food. Being vegetarians me and my wife were really scared that we would be starved to death in the middle of the jungle with no other options to eat out. But the chef at the lodge took great pains to design our meals (which are customized every single time) to suit not just our dietary requirements but our Indian pallette as well.
And the icing on the cake was the surprise night feast specially organized by the lodge for all the guests on our very first night. We were driven off into the middle of the jungle only to suddenly stumble upon lanterns lighting our path and individual dinner tables laid out for us with a bonfire in the middle. A once in a lifetime experience partying like that in the middle of the jungle with no protective fencing and completely surrounded by wildlife.
Service staff, rangers and spotters were all impeccable with a special shout out to our extremely friendly and knowlegable Andrew who made our trip even more awesome.

I am just getting around to reviewing our stay in Kruger National Park. My wife and I visited South Africa in early November 2013 after a month long work experience in Ghana. We spent our initial week in Cape Town and then the last week in Kruger with 4 days split between Idube and Lukimbi. First off, I think the split time option between the two resorts is a great idea. I can speak for to Idube in separate review, but the properties are quite different and each has their own special perks, so getting to do both was really great. It was an easy drive from Idube to Lukimbi through the park. The entire grounds, complex, and rooms at Lukimbi are really amazing. We took pictures of our suite to remember for when we are designing our own house, they are that beautiful. It is perfectly quiet and peaceful at night. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars was an unpleasant experience with a female employee who was working the phone at the front desk overnight. The electricity in our room went out, a man was sent to fix the problem and came promptly, was very kind and seemingly fixed with his quote at the end being "if it goes off again, please call and we will have someone right back out." Thus after returning from dinner and the electricity was off again, I called the front desk. I was connected with a very rude woman who told me it was probably the AC unit that caused the electricity to go out, even though we had no turned on the AC unit prior to my call to her. She then suggested we just not have electricity overnight and could be fixed in the morning, which would be fine if we were camping, but not fine for an expensive, 4 star luxury resort in the heat of South African spring/summer, especially since she could have moved us to a different room. Finally, after I said that was not excusable to her, a very helpful, nice repair man came out to discover a dead gecko in the electricity box that was causing the short circuit- dead gecko removed, problem solved. The other staff was incredibly nice, the game drivers were a bit reserved but great, and the food was sooo good at every meal. While Idube's main focus was big cats, leopards and lions- Lukimbi had a bit more variety in way of rhinos and also got to see cheetahs on our last ride which was incredible. I would definitely stay here again, I would only recommend that that one employee (woman working overnight at front desk in November 2013) be retrained in customer service and etiquette. Otherwise amazing. On our last night we even had a late night visitor of a large bull elephant literally right outside the floor to ceiling bathroom window almost pressed against the glass, will never forget it.

Room Tip: The rooms are all individual lodges and are incredibly appointed, the bathrooms are beautiful.

The folks at Lukimbi will really show you a good time. The food served is fantastic and the staff take care of your every need. The wildlife around also make for fantastic views even when not out in the Bush.

It was a real treat to stay at the Lukimbi safari lodge. The lodge is set in its own private area of the Kruger where we saw a fantastic variety of animals. The rangers and trackers are very knowledgeable and very friendly as are all the staff at the lodge who go out of their way to make your stay special. The rooms are beautifully laid out in an open plan style to a very high level of luxury and overlook the river. The food is amazing and the wine cellar is well worth a visit. This is a bit of paradise in the Kruger.

We stayed at Likimbi lodge for 4 nights for our honeymoon. On arrival we were greeted by Sean who informed us of Likmbi's facilities and offered us a much needed drink. Then we were shown to our Premier suite, which was pure luxury and over looked the river. It had a huge living area, bedroom, bathroom, including outdoor shower, and decking with private pool and sunbeds.

The 5.30am starts were made better by the coffee/tea provided and hot water bottles and blankets that kept us warm on those fresh mornings. On our first trip out, within two minutes of leaving the Likimbi gate we saw two white rhino’s and over the rest of our trip we manage to see lions, elephants, leopard, cheetahs, giraffe, hippos, water buffalo and many more. The main highlight for us was a leopard half way up a tree enjoying his catch of the day!

Our guide Gideon was very friendly and knowledgeable and our tracker KK tracked down 3 lions for us on foot. Very brave!

The food was superb and prepared by the amazing chef Kaitlyn who made an effort to speak to all guests after the food was served. We tried things we had never eaten before and also enjoyed a lovely braai (barbecue) experience.

The barman, Lybon was very helpful and allowed us to try out a few of the wines from the cellar and always made sure our drinks were topped up!

Throughout our whole stay the attention to detail was incredible and as we were on our honeymoon they made a real effort to make it as romantic as they could and provided us with a bottle of champagne in our room, ran us a candle lit bath and allowed us to have a romantic meal for two in their wine cellar.

Sean and Shelley made us feel very welcome here and have a great team behind them. I would recommend Likimbi to anyone who is looking for a 5* safari with luxury michelin star food.

It is quite a drive into Lukimbi but so worth it when you get there. Beautiful lodge, amazing food, fantastic Staff. Everyone makes such an effort to make you feel welcome. ALL the staff are incredible. Thanks to Zane our guide and Norman our tracker, they managed to find us Lion, Cheetah and leopard in one night, not to mention more Rhino than i have ever seen. Zane's knowledge was great and he has a good sense of fun.
Lukimbi is the ultimate in Luxury Safari experience and I would say better for you if you are slightly less adventurous. The vehicles are more protected than at Idube. I preferred the open trucks but everyone is different. Sadly only one night there but we were treated like Royalty.
Each room is a suite and we had a bath that over looked the Bush. Even the toilet had a window!
The Game can be sparser than at some of the Sabi Sands lodges

Room Tip: West 2 is a great room
