Outstanding, Superb, Fantastic, beautiful, dedicated are just some of the words to describe Elandela.

The Owners, Yvonne and Rocco have a truly amazing place to live and you can share it with them in this 14 luxury bedroom private lodge.

When you arrive you will be greeted by the female staff banging the drums. You will be impressed with the lush garden that is very carefully tendered and straight away you lnow that you have arrived in to a very friendly and courteous lodge.

Corina the lodge Manager will warmly welcome you and explain the various things that we as guests need to know.

My partner and I arrived just before lunch and we were quickly shown to our room. Straight away we were impressed with the cleanliness and high quality of the fixtures and fittings. The four poster bed was magnificent. The bathroom contained a very substantial shower that even enabled me who is on the large side easy access and lots of room to move around. You will also find a fully stocked minibar, along with a hair dryer and tea and coffee making facilities in your room. All rooms are fully air conditioned.

You will know when Breakfast, lunch and dinner are being served as sound of the drum beats and the smells from the kitchen will soon have you moving nicely along to the dinning room. While we were there Precious did the honour of the drums. Her big smile was a pleasure to see and the attention that she gives you is second to none. All the staff have the same attitude and They cant do enough for you. On our last night we had dinner in the Boma. I won't spoil it for you but leave it as a surprise. But I will say that you won't be disappointed.

For breakfast you will be greeted with fresh fruit, followed by porridge then by eggs any way you want them and various side dishes. For lunch there is a light three course meal and for dinner you will be amazed by the six course offering. But don't worry it was enough for me and my partner who eats like a pigeon managed quite well too.

The first Game drive which starts at 6.00am was hosted by either JV or Corina. Their knowledge is truly amazing and will ensure that all your questions are answered even if you think it's a silly one. You will stop halfway through the Drive for a cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate and a biscuit.

On the second drive which starts at 3.00pm you will stop half way through to watch the sunset and will be offered a beer, wine or soft drink. This will be charged to your room. In fact the drinks prices here are very reasonable indeed. Tea and Coffee are free.

The animals that We saw in the three days that we were there are listed below

White lion, Brown lion, Mongoose,
Jackal, Porcupine, White Rhino, Leopard, Giraffe, Zebra, Wild Cat,
Imparla, Hippo, Crocodile, Various Eagles, Bat, Antelope, Ibis, Warthog,
Wilder beast, Water Buffalo, Vulture,
Guinea Fowl, Kudu, Batter ear Eagle,
Lilac Breasted Roller, Njala - Black Antelope, Brown Hooded Kingfisher,
Tawny Eagle, White Back Vulture,
Yellow Billed Hornbill, Red Billed Hornbill, Elephant, Eland - South Africa Largest Antelope, Hare.

It was in May this year that poachers had tried to attack the Elandela Rhino for there horn. The Rhinos had been shot but miraculously were not killed. They are now kept with the lions for their safety. You will also meet Rocky and Clover who were orphaned when the poachers were successful in killing their mothers for their horn a couple of years ago.

I find it very hard to fault anything at Elandela. In fact I have already booked for next year. The only criticism that I have is that in the three days there we were there we never saw aTiger (wink).

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Elandela. Yvonne and Rocco were gracious hosts and JV was a knowledgeable and friendly guide. The brick chalets were spacious and comfortable - choose one overlooking the river. The best-kept secret, however, is the 5-star cuisine prepared by resident chef, Stephen, who delighted us by serving beautifully-presented, delicious meals, the best we ate all holiday.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the river are private and tranquil but further from the pool

Hello to any one who may be thinking about a safari holiday.
We had Elendela chosen for our family safari by our holiday organisers Eshores/Premier Holidays and had asked for something special for my wife Linda as it was her 50th Birthday and boy did they pick a gem. From our arrival we wanted for nothing Rocco and Yvonne the owners of Elendela have put together something very special not forgetting the staff they have picked to work for them.Corine greeted us on arrival and showed us to our rooms which are of a very high standard and thankfully no television We had J.V as our ranger for the 4 days we spent there from early morning and evening drives and he past on a vast amount of information about all the animals and birds plus the vegetation and the importance of it.Steven the chef prepared all the meals we ate at Elendela to an unbelievable high standard and has to be commended for his work and attention to detail and presentation along with the rest of his staff and not forgetting the open air Boma which he did for us. Richard kept us topped up from the bar during meal times and the girls doing the rooms were all very pleasant and nothing to much trouble. The animals sounds that could be heard from your room at night were the hippo's at the water hole not far from your room at the main lodge also Monkeys, Baboons, Water Buffalo, hyena, prairie dogs during the day Giraffe would drink at the waterhole along with Impala and warthogs plus a number of different birds. Animals seen on drives were to many to count but White Lions, Giraffe, Impala, Kudu, Water Buffalo, White Rhino's, Leopards, Hyena's, Warthogs Guinea Fowl but to mention a few. All the family had a very special time here and made to feel at home which will not be forgotten in a long time and would recommend this place to anyone thinking about future safari trips to South Africa

Room Tip: Would Recommend a room at the lodge as that was what we had and was of high standard

Our trip began (5 days/4 nights in early June 2013) by a personal pick up by Carina, reserve ranger. After we were welcomed by drum and song - led by Precious (a woman whom has the sweetest smile which fills her entire face), we were shown our room (we had rooms #1 & #2) - elegant, cooled by the thatched roof, and lit to fit the occasion (we were on safari...), we were offered a 3 course "light lunch" and whisked away for our first photo safari. There, we met JV (the lodge's new hire - "guide"). He is absolutely amazing and a wealth of knowledge and has a great respect for the bush and everything that it offers its observers - from the ground to the sky - he is able to provide insight that draws you in and wanting more ....! We were never without delicious food (Steven is a wonderful ambassador for the kitchen) from the 4 course breakfasts, to the 3 course light lunches, to the 6 course dinners. Carina was so thoughtful and always provided us attention during her myriad of responsibilities, even when my 8 year old son was crying - she made sure to help meet his needs and focus on the "bright side of life." She also helped to capture a Gecko, who entered into his room and wanted to sleep with him, so that he would not be worried during his sleep that the Gecko would get too cozy in his bed. The outside path was well lit (in fact - I wish there was less light outside at night). My son enjoyed the pool on an especially warm day. At the watering hole just outside our room - we had a magical experience where 3 giraffe came to enjoy a drink in the afternoon son - INCREDIBLE! We also could hear the hippo in the evening enjoy the solidarity of the watering hole. Rose was quiet and sweet and always free to offer a drink at the bar. On safari, we enjoyed a rest for coffee/biscotti in the AM and soda/water/adult beverages in the PM. We saw too many animals to count - most favorite by my family were the warthogs, impala/water buck, giraffe, white lions, cape buffalo, zebras, and rhino. We also had a, once in a lifetime experience, where we participated in a medical intervention for a female rhino who had been shot during an attempted poaching for her horn. To feel the rhino breath on me is a feeling I will never forget and being there with my 2 children and husband is something that will bond us together forever! Lastly, I had a personal desire to see the baobab tree and Carina allowed us time at the tree that is 2000 years old during our evening safari trip - it was absolutely wonderful! Thanks to Elandela for these memories - I can't wait to return!

Room Tip: I would choose the rooms closer to the main lodge as a septic system is used and the lower rooms do...

We travelled as a couple and spend 3 nights at Elandela. The hospitality of all the staff was fantastic and the food was amazing.
We enoyed all the additional extras which were avalible which included riding on elephants!
We couldn't rate the staff more highly for their attentiveness and the knowledge of the guides.
Getting to meet Roccy and Clover (two baby rhinos) and feed them was a real once in a life time event.

You start your journey with a warm welcome from the staff, with beating drums, chanting and a shot of amarula, it really is a lovely way to arrive to such a beautiful lodge. We arrived early in the afternoon and were met by Carina, a real gem who makes the trip so enjoyable, she is the main guide and really knows her stuff. We were taken to her 'office' by the pool and told all about our trip and what we would experience, we were immediately made to feel welcome on the beautiful lodge, taking a tour of the dining room where we met the chef, Stephen who checks dietary requirements, followed by the magnificent bar and then shown to our fantastic room, complete with 4 poster bed. During our stay we were treated to amazing 6 course dinners, 4 course breakfasts and lovely lunches when out and about. Stephen is a master in the kitchen and the food really is something to behold both in taste and presentation. We were lucky enough to have a boma one evening too which is a great experience food wise. Game drives are done twice a day, one first thing and another in the evening. Carina took us around the park and showed us every inch, we were spoilt to be on our own for the first 2 of our drives and she is an excellent tracker as well as being very knowledgeable and passionate about the animals she looks after so it really was an amazing experience. Carina also gets guests involved so we were lucky enough to help with rhino darting on our last morning so the vets could clean wounds. I would recommend the additional excursions the lodge provides too, especially moholoholo which also assists with animal conservation. Carina is very friendly with the guides and knows the animals well so again you have a wonderful personal touch. The owners Yvonne and Rocco are both lovely too and very welcoming to their lodge, they are very lucky to have such a wonderful bunch of staff again I have to highlight Carina here as she really makes the place as special as it is. We will definitely be back.
