“Big on area; Small on Attractions”

This park has some real great events in the evening. But unless you leave home at 3pm in the afternoon, you won't get near them. One evening we went to see a digital fireworks display they had there. When we left the suite, it was about 5pm. When we got there, we couldn't get any where near the attraction. We ended up going back to our Resort. The park is big enough, but the area where they hold the events is small, and doesn't accommodate a crowd of people. There were people illegally parked on the sides of Route 95(toward Parker) totally outside the boundaries of the park trying to view the display. Not worth the effort unless you want to get there hours before the events.

We have been hiking 45 years so I know we are very spoiled. However, this park had so many trails going every which way and was very poorly marked. If you lived here I am sure you would figure out the way to the crack area. For us it was a very hot hike with very few views that was worth the effort.

If you like hiking, biking or just a quick walk in the desert, you can't go wong here. Trails are easy to find, and after hiking here for 3 years, we are still finding new places to go. And keep an eye out for the bighorn sheep!

Great workout!

Passing the slots (jumping & climbing) down the ladders (2 ladders) pretty easy for the agile hikers. If you are challenged with mobility I would not recommend going through the yellow trail marked slotted areas. Best to stay up high on the trail marked with blue markers.
After completing the slotted areas continue for approx. another mile or so until you can observe the lake.
Beautiful views! Well worth the energy & the time to make it to the water. The ducks were neat to watch as they attempted to fend off the seagulls as they tried to feed themselves. You will also see speedboats and such from the waters edge.

At the distance you will see a picnic bench (by the lake) as well as bathrooms...perfect spot to grab a bite.

*Points of Attention:
I recall reviews suggesting to return via the blue markers (on the upper trail looking down on the wash) I wish I had not! If it's hot, it's best to return via the "yellow marked trail" as it is MUCH cooler down below. At least 10 degrees (big deal when 1 is melting). It was not fun baking in the sun as we hustled the trail to try to get away from the direct sunlight.

Fun trail!

The morning hours are the best to start hike at Sara Park. You'll start with a sweatshirt but it will be off by the time you're done. The trails are great and actually made for all ages. Some slopes can be pretty steep at any trail but there's sometimes an easy option down a hill as well. Great views of the water and the city are easy to get to. We never saw any dangers like scorpions or snakes in early February. There are many options for lengths of trails and their times. Map and porta pottys at the trail heads.
