We travelled to the Tydon "Bush camp" safari by car while visiting my sister who lives in South Africa. Firstly the booking experience was very good and Gavin was always quick to respond. Directions to the camp were clear and easy to follow and we arrived almost on time... (despite being distracted by the wildlife we saw on our way to the camp! This was our second Safari experience and it was as magical as the first. The accommodation and food was first class though, in the end, the experience is very dependent upon what you see (and this is somewhat down to good fortune) and for this we very lucky with the skill of Debbie and Gavin who took us to amazing locations, where we observed a leopard devouring its prey over 2 days, as well as many other game sightings and birds. The sight of a herd of elephants just wandering past the camp on one afternoon only added to the all round excellence of our stay and we are very grateful to Gavin and Debbie and all the staff for an excellent stay. We are already looking forward to our next visit - hopefully soon!

We split our time between the 2 camps they have, bush camp and safari camp. One of the guides, Jared, picked us up in Joberg for the drive out to the bush. He did a great of acclimating us and answering any questions. Deb was our guide and host at the bush camp. She did a great job on safari drives. For 3 days all we did was eat, sleep and safari, lol. The private drives in Sabi were the best! We did a bush walk with Stephen one morning and his knowledge, demeanor and love of what he does we're enjoyable. Be sure to shake hands before he handles the elephant dung....Drives in Kruger Park were very different. Traveling mostly on paved and dirt roads and encountering nearly as many tourists as animals. Evenings around the camp fire talking about each days experiences were fun and relaxing. Vangie came out one evening and spent part of the evening with us as well as breakfast the next morning. Overall our safari experience was terrific. Thanks Gavin and Vangie for facilitating...

Giving the folks at Tydon Safaris a 5 star rating quite simply does not do them justice. My husband and I just returned from a 3 month holiday and our time here at their safari camp was the highlight. The camp is a family run outfit lead by husband and wife team Vangie and Gavin. They work alongside a top notch staff which includes their two sons Tyron and Donovan (both trackers), guides Debbie and Lyam and a host of other cooking and support personal. From the moment we were picked up right outside our gate at the airport to the moment we were dropped back off in Johannesburg we were treated with the utmost courtesy and professionalism.

The tents were of excellent quality and had all of the amenities that you would find in a typical hotel room complete with very efficient heating/AC systems, private bathroom and shower, comfortable beds, hair dryers, etc.

The dinners varied each evening with a new local dish to try each time. Dinners were phenomenal- awesome food and massive portions. Lunch was salad or sandwiches and I personally was not a fan of the sandwich meat but eating a salad was fine by me. Noteworthy here is the extent to which the Vangie and the cooking staff went to accommodate a food allergy that I have. For breakfast, lunch and dinner a GLUTEN FREE alternate was prepared which was very much appreciated. The cooking staff brought out a fresh batch of gluten free muffins each morning just for me which was very sweet of them. As for the camp grounds in general they are very well kept and neat as can be.

The Safari camp that we stayed at it literally right up against the main gate and entrance to Sabi Sands so the experience is as authentic and enjoyable as anyone can ask for. Several nights we were treated to the sounds of lions roaring just outside the gates which is something that you truly have to hear to fully appreciate. The safaris are conducted in two different vehicles based on the destination that date -- open top for Sabi Sands and enclosed with open sides for Kruger. Both are excellent vehicles and are new or like new. The game drives themselves are phenomenal! We were lucky enough to have Lyam driving and Donovan tracking for all of our drives and they did not disappoint! We say all of the Big 5 several times over. We also were lucky enough to witness a Leopard kill which was out of this world. What stood out to us about these drives is how Lyam went above and beyond in driving in and around trees, bushes, ditches and the like to ensure that we got the absolute best view possible (and still safe). We witnessed many other safari outfits driving their clients around and it becomes obvious very quickly how valuable having a very experienced guide like Lyam or Debbie really is. Our views were out of this world. We literally felt like we were in a National Geographic documentary as Lyam placed us safely within reaching distance of Leopards, Elephant and many other incredible creatures. We did the 7 day tour which worked out brilliantly. We had seen the Big 5 by day 3 but each day brought something new and made each day fully worth it.

After 3 months of travel we can honestly say that all of these items just mentioned and more made this our favorite stop of them all. I corresponded with Vangie and Gavin several times before booking the trip so if you have any questions or concerns I would suggest sending them an email. You won't be sorry you did. They have a 5 star rating on here for a reason and it is very well deserved.

Tydon safari was a complete shot in the dark and it turned out to be a bull's-eye. Gavin and Vangie are the owners of this camp. They are warm and engaging and you feel like family almost from the moment you meet them. The camps are simply superb with accommodations more comfortable then some hotels I have stayed in. My wife and I did tours in Sabi Sands and Kruger and each adventure was more exciting then the last. The rangers, Debbie and Liam are simply outstanding and will go to great lengths to show you animals in their natural element. It was with great sadness when our final tour ended and we prepared to leave for the last time.
