Beautiful facility located 2 hours north of Johhanesburg. Perfect for a short or long stay. Would love to revisit for pleasure.
Needed to be informed how best to get back onto the motorway heading north.

Although the setting is really pretty and beautiful and our evening meal was excellent - there were few things that wouldnt get us to rush back at any time soon.
Our check in was slow and seemed to not be available when we arrived. (2pm in the afternoon) - we then opted to have lunch on the deck while we waited and this "light lunch" took over an hour to be served. For a chicken wrap and a lamb cofta - wow totally unacceptable. I think for what my husband ordered, it was also a plain rip off. R90.00 (good grief) I could have made a better wrap at home. However, the manager on duty (I think Alfred was his name was really friendly and helpful to try and sort this out for us. Our room (34) - was actually a shocker. Towels had to be ordered, the fan in the main room didnt work and the aircon much to our dismay later that night also didnt work. It was a hot night and full of mosquitos so we almost had no sleep. Sorry to portray a dismal picture but thats how it panned out for us. Our meal in the evening was excellent though and again your staff were very friendly.

The hotel itself is a beautiful mismatch of decor. From the classic smoky bar with its leather and antique chairs, to the modern dining area - all straight lines and simple colours. If you like paying attention to the little details, you will be enthralled by the amount of little details in this hotel.

As a photographer, this hotel is a thing of beauty. The gardens boast a large variety of flora and contains many interesting things to photograph. Even the interior decor is of photographic interest. The food is made of the stuff of dreams and the head chef, Nicholas Lesiba Makwesa, along with his kitchen crew create absolutely beautiful, innovative, and above all, tasty dishes! I couldn't help but take a photo of every meal as every meal became an occasion.

The only issue we had was with the people who worked the front desk: they were not very helpful or friendly and did not prove to be easy to deal with at all. Every other member of the staff throughout the hotel were friendly, helpful, and their positive attitudes and outlooks to life was purely infectious!

This is definitely a hotel I would visit again, though I would strongly advise against booking anything other than an executive suite or higher as the room we were first directed to (as we wanted a shower and made the mistake of not making that clear in our booking, so our fault) was a standard room with a shower, and it proved to be small, dark, dank and smelt of rising damp. Whereas the executive suite we booked was nice and spacious, contained a comfortable air-conditioner (it is extremely hot at Shangri-La), work desk, cupboards and a bathroom (with a bath).

Since my previous review, we have twice visited the restaurant as walk-in clients, once with friends and now with our children from Europe. Beautiful gardens, friendly and capable staff, luxurious surroundings, excellent food and warm hospitality. In both cases we all left with a feeling of gratitude for such an experience.

Dear guest, it is an honour to receive such lovely compliments. Thank you for making the time to review your stay. Shangri-La is certainly ideal for guests wanting to escape the daily hustle and bustle, and because of its convenient location to both Bela Bela and Modimolle, and its close proximity to the N1 highway, Shangri-La is perfect for business travellers and holiday makers. Your beautiful review will be shared with our team. We look forward to welcoming you back in the nearby future for yet another well deserved break.

amazing service The welcome and attention to detail that mapule gave us I have never in a long life experienced. She surely is a gifted person. All the other service was excellent. the room was alittle stuffy and smelling of sigar smoke, and some cigarette buds was lying araound, but a little ventilation and me throwing cigarette-buds out of sight, made it idilic again, in 5 minutes

We had a breakaway weekend at Shangri-La over Valentines weekend. We had a wonderful time. The gardens are beautiful, the food is delicious, the rooms are very luxurious and the staff are extremely friendly and professional. This is the best in Country hospitality. Will definately go back. Big thanks to the entire staff for making this weekend so unforgettable.
